Weight loss

Depends which veggies, some are higher in carbs then the rest,

veggies like lettuce, herby veggies, can be very low in carbs,
but others such as corn, potatoes, carrots, can be much higher in carbs.

My mom has problems with her sugar, so cant have normal potatoes, generally opts for sweet potatoe and other low carb veggies.

The only veggies I'm not eating are normal potatoes and corn. I'm having plenty of sweet potatoes, butternut and yams and I can definitely see weight loss.

Thats awesome, if it works for you, stick with it :)

*NB - Gemsquash is also really good, very low in carbs and easy to prepare ;)

Hahaha the ones low in carbs are basically pointless

Speaking of carbs...
What are your guidelines on water intake?

:p

lots and lots of water!!

there was an amount per Kg of your current weight, but to be safe, 2L per day.

Easiest thing to do is to just keep a water bottle with you and drink water throughout the whole day.

I drink about 3l of water a day but some people say that's not good.
I don't force the water in.
Ok maybe a little...

2 litres?
Personally I only have about a litre and about 5 cups of green tea.

i remember my dietician , things like tea and stuff, if you have them without sugar, then i think it can count towards your total water consumption for the day.

Also, im not sure about drinking too much of water, im sure there could be something, but i doubt you'll go wonky if you drink an extra glass or two a day :o

The dietician told me 3 - 5 is safe so I'll stick to that

But veggies are carbs, right?

I think it's been answered to a degree, basic rule of thumb is green leafy veg are okay, most other veg that grows above ground is better than what grows below ground

So I went for my first run today. This morning's weigh-in really shocked me :/

Problem with running - man it hurts my ankles :p And then my calves went into cramp. I WILL NOT STAND FOR THIS REBELLION OF MY CELLS.... :p

Still, managed 2.2km at a pace of 8 min/km. Not great, but it's a start.

Get better shoes and don't run like a giraffe

don't stress about the running, focus on what you're eating

I know. I lost 20 kg in 6 months a few years ago. Am doing the same thing now, except then I walked 5km a day and now I don't, hence starting the running.
With a proper ketogenic diet, all exercise is fat-burning so every calorie helps :D and I do want to get fitter anyway. Want to be able to run a half marathon in the not too distant future.

please, please, please forget about calories

a calories is not a calorie, I can't stress that enough

exercise is good from a general health perspective, walking especially so (we're actually designed to walk, not run), CICO (calories in calories out) is invalid when it comes to the human body, we're a chemical engine, not a heat engine (and I've said that before).

I know. I wasn't talking about calories eaten. I was talking about energy expended... Ketones burnt ;)
If I burn more ketones my body responds by increasing the rate it converts stored triglyceride to ketones, and that is the secret to weight loss. Eat low carb and boost your metabolism.
