Hi folks, I see abstaining from carbs seems to be the method of choice for losing weight here. I have found this article which indicates grave consequences of a carbohydrates-free diet.
http://www.webmd.com/diet/high-protein-low-carbohydrate-diets
Aug. 2, 2010 -- Low-carbohydrate weight loss diets have an edge over low-fat diets for improving HDL cholesterol levels long term, according to a study funded by the National Institutes of Health.
Dieters who followed low-carb or low-fat plans for two years along with a lifestyle modification program lost the same amount of weight -- on average about 7% of their body weight or 15 pounds.
But throughout the two-year study, low-carbohydrate dieters had significantly increased HDL, or "good," cholesterol levels compared to low-fat dieters.
I hope you are correct because otherwise people might find themselves with health issues from which they may never recover, ever. That article is full of non-scientific myth and is easily debunked

Yes, sorry. The article is in fact warning against low-carb diets not carb-free diets.Lastly, I doubt anyone is on a carb-free diet. It's called low-carb for a reason.

Nutritionists of the era assumed that all-meat diets were unhealthy because (1) excessive meat consumption was alleged to raise blood pressure and cause gout; (2) the monotony of eating only meat—or any other single food—was said to induce a physical sense of revulsion; (3) the absence of fresh fruit and vegetables in these diets would cause scurvy and other deficiency diseases, and (4) protein-rich diets were thought to induce chronic kidney damage, a belief based largely on early research by Louis Newburgh.
None of these claims were based on compelling evidence. Newburgh, for instance, had based his conclusions largely on experiments in which he fed excessive quantities of soybean, egg whites, and beef protein to rabbits, which, as critics would later observe, happen to be herbivores. Their natural diet is buds and bark, not their fellow animals, and so there was little scientific value in force-feeding them meat or animal protein.
I hear you OMB, I have also done some research which confirms your view and I don't doubt that low-carb is effective when it comes to weight loss (also from personal experienced) BUT I get spooked by the devastation that other sources claim this approach can cause.
Ridiculous if true! And begs the question why this was not debunked earlier as the West spends billions on medical research? Were all these brilliant minds fooled?here's an indication of the impact of what I mentioned
so the whole premise of high protein diets being bad for humans was based on research done by force feeding protein to rabbits

Weight loss made easy:
1) eating plan
2) exercise
hardcore yo!
Yeah, I heard Dr Noakes stirred (again) and he is almost a persona-non grata in the South African medical fraternity as a result. The doyens frown upon his approach.Low carb is safe man(though I think it could be different if you have medical issues).
