I actually have no problem with Wesley establishing their product ranges. It would actually be very much appreciated should he be able to report on problem scenarios like, returns, issues etc. Thus enlightening the end-user on his/her purchase or needs.

My only quarrel with this is that when a Forumnite ask where he can purchase the product… Wesley will have to provide a channel, thus giving one reseller a customer above another. Their resellers who are stockists may however be nominated to make contact with a Forumnite who has interest in a product, but this is all within their internal agreements, nothing to do with MyBB.

Or they could just do some work and add an A-Z list of registered dealers on their site and then he just needs to link to that.
Probably too much effort for them though.

Yes
Legit PC businesses should be allowed to sign-up, and if a small business, give them a COD account...

Can't they do that already?

I just think if this guy is going to be allowed to peddle his wares on the site, it should be restricted to a group of members who have Rectron account. No point in spamming the rest of us who can't buy from them.

Don't think that they will make their accounts (dealers) available, massive list...

Just to add, the comparison to Esquire was only in reference to what they offer this site's community. I'm sure they would have removed the offer if it was more of a pain and I have seen the flack they get for their policies on here. And no the business sizes and distribution rights cannot be compared.

It's not easy getting an account there, and when you do, you need to look after it and use it or it will get closed. I think there is also a monthly minimum.
The account I use is older, I know they have changed lots for their newer accounts...

Shucks - I actually feel for poor 'ol Wesley - he didn't know his audience here.

You gots to lurk here for a while to get a feel for the place.

Good luck fella.

Oh, tip, less walls of text please and badly formatted messages - if something should be in table format, put it into a table - the site allows for that.

I think Wesley came here with honest and good intentions. The mistakes he made were not knowing his audience and an iffy 1st post.

This was probably Wesley's thinking:
"Get the word out there about interesting and exciting products that will be available locally, in the near future. MyBB is a tech/IT forum, so the forumites should find it interesting and will then google for more info and should those products become available, a quick google for South African results will turn up lots of e-tailers offering them up, thus giving our resellers exposure and making end-users aware of products they might fancy owning. IF they need more info, they can ask for it in the thread(s) and if I can't help directly myself, I'll source help from our relevant technical guys/product managers or contact the vendor to help out."

The trolls attacked him for being from Rectron and not selling to the public - like the vast majority of mainstream IT distributors in SA. He was naive and thought he'll only get requests for detailed specs and an ETA.

Wesley, I sympathise with you to a degree. You acted calmly (apart from one or two blips) in the face of off-intended-topic attacks. Requests for him to mention opposition distributors who also stock this product - geez! :wtf:

MyBB's ugly side surfaces again...:eek:

@Mod: this thread is going nowhere, how about locking it? ...or let the troll continue his "discussion". Just my 2cents - use it, don't use it.

Hi Wesley. I'm looking for a KVM switch that can do PS2 and USB and work with Linux. I did speak to the guys in PE, but they could not really help me. I would prefer a 2 port switch, but a 4 port would work as well.
I am registered at the PE branch.

As I was just looking at this one last (yes, really) time before going shuteye, I looked at the latest pl (the Jozi one, clearly) and I see they list the KVM-222 for two-port action. The fun starts when the damn pl reads "D-Link KVM 2 Port PS2/USB Combo KVM Switch with Audio Support", while everything I see online shows USB only! So, YMMV ...& GFL.

I have just come across this interesting discussion now. It seems that this was originally posted in the hardware section, but has now been moved to the Dealers section.

To me this does not make any sense as I would expect then that there would be a good number of mybb users who have Rectron accounts, which prob isn't the case. These dealers are currently kept in loop by dealer emails etc.

It would make more sense for Wesley to post in individual capacity (as suggested by another user) and not mention Rectron at all.

Posting in Dealer section creates an expectation that these products are available to the mybb user, at least in my mind it does.

Ones I can think off are Esquire (wholesale prices) and Uniterm (at slightly better prices than general public)

Lol. How to get burned MyBB style :D

Welcome Wesley. I don't have an account with Rectron yet, but will open one if you demo some interesting products. This one is a good start.

Yeah, but I was told by the technical staff that it only supports Windows and something else, but not Linux.

Import licenses are given to one company, for many if not most products out there. It would be an agreement between Gigabyte and rectron, in this case. Guess where the other distribution companies get their Gigabyte stuff from? ;)

YOH ... I got to page 7 and stopped reading. The dude is not forcing you to click on his thread, damn... some harsh MyBB'ers here! I get the Dealer adverts and He has beat them to the punch on the Brix, so informative & interesting. No harm done.

Welcome Wesley... stay strong... you might yet survive ;)
