West Coast Cable ready by May 2010

Has there been any press related news in respect of anything actually being done? ie. Repeaters or cable laying as we have heard news about Seacom?

This is the DoC we are talking about... No real information unfortunately...

Blah...blah...blah. I am really happy that SEACOM is going to be ready by next year. Hopefully if it makes money it might encourage some more private companies to build cables. I have given up on the department of communications as they have a poor track record...
 
In her budget vote speech today the Minister of Communications, Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri, said that South Africa is still facing challenges to increase the uptake and usage of communications technologies and reduce the cost of access to these technologies.

Translation: "I am still blocking all progress because of my ineptitude and total incompetence"

Matsepe-Casaburri however warned that reducing the cost of communications without increasing available infrastructure will reduce the quality of communications to undesirable levels.

The minister said that Government has committed themselves to benchmarking against the best with respect to the costs to communicate, quality, access to services, high uptake and usage of ICTs.

The minister pointed out that in a further attempt to bring costs down, the government has approved the building of the African West Coast Cable (A.W.C.C.) undersea cable, with Infraco at the lead.

Translation: "Somebody in the Public Sector pointed out to me what an ass I was making of myself with all those stupid Cable landing regulations and when I backtracked on them, the cable laying process went ahead. Infraco will be involved as soon as they quit whining about how much money I am denying them!"

Like the gautrain is gonna be ready?? lol..

Hopefully... You never know.. At least it's not like a rainy day is gonna prevent them from working.

In this case im talking about Seacom
 
I love all these 'cables' coming our way!

So long going on the internet is as cheap as going to movies, I'm all good ;)
