--Fair pricing (not looking for the cheapest, but definitely competitive)

ISP must offer the following

1. Single login account for ADSL, 3G, WiFi with reasonable/competitive prices on all access means.
2. If ADSL line fails, 3G backup must provided at same price.
3. Willing to pay for Application Assurance - where I can choose to prioritize & pay for specific appliactions (e.g. VPN).
4. Fast speeds with low contention. Contention Ratio must be pubslished / available on line in real time.
5. Willing to accept ads on pages (with my preferences of course) for Free Antivirus service. Check for example: http://www.kindsight.net/
6. Want to specify what I want as cached data or real-time data.
7. Offer me ability to backup contents of my phone / Digital Media. (Storage space as a service)
8. Must offer SMTP service even for bulk emails (4000+ emails).
9. Must offer ability to Select SaaS services via portal.
10. Online ability to change speed without having to call account manager
11. Must offer online video (pay per use model)
12. & Lots more... depending on what I can win...

I want stability, a line that gives good average speeds and doesn't dip like a see-saw. Added, I still feel broadband is way over priced. They need to adjust their prices and packages.

Consistency ie Reliability
Speed, when need - and in businesses when you need speed, you need it.
Uncapped
Affordable
Helpful support from ISP
Productive and working wireless setups

Redundancy and QoS for business users. also CHEAPER bandwidth rates for home users.

1. Stable connection
2. Consistent speed
3. Fair pricing
4. High caps
5. Call centres where the phone gets answered in under 5 minutes, and not by some automated voice thing.

Some very valid points raised by all posters so far, so I am hopefully not going to repeat them below:

Tailored packages would be nice. Business hours prioritization for common business protocols and additional custom services if need be.

But at the end of the day, what I would want is a single point of contact for all my service needs. I don't want to have to query my ISP to be told I need to check with Telkom or a backbone provider, etc.

The most important thing regarding an ISP, especially for small businesses, is fast customer service. If there is something wrong with the internet, I want the ISP immediately to respond and to fix the problem, and not wait a week or more to get help.

-Stable Connection
-Good quality bandwidth with no shaping
-Uncapped
-User control-panel where I can add/delete services without having to contact the ISP.
-Line Redundancy
-Knowledgeable support

All i would want is GOOD Reliability and Stability a fair Price with good Support and easy to communicate staff let it be Support or Accounts then im happy.

My ISP Requirements:

1) Uptime - essential, i can deal with a slower than promised connection as long as it is up, do not purposefully slow it though
2) Capped and Uncapped offerings.
3) Flexibility. Every business of mine has different Internet Access requirements.
4) Support - I want someone I can phone if there is a problem, do not give me a mail address only. I will mail you if I want to, but I want to be to speak to someone. Give me the option, do not decide for me.
5) A sales person by name that I can phone or even mail - I am happy to wait for a sales person on mail, no longer than 2 days.
6) Let me decide on my payment terms - if i do not want a debit order, its because i do not trust you. I will gladly pay in advance if I refuse a debit order.
7) Happy to hear from me when I do make contact, even if it is a problem - at least you know I am still a client of yours and have nnot left you because your opposition has offered me a better package.
8) deliver on your promises.
9) Solve the problem - My ISP states it will get back to me within 48 hours of the time i reported a problem, then they will send me email saying do "x" and let us know, then they will take 48 hours to respond again, etc. and i dont even bother phoning as I do not have time to wait in a call centre que.
10) Do not charge me the world for the above, it doesnt cost many ISPs what they state it costs them, especially not the way their businesses are merged with hosting, DSL offerings, virtual servers, offsite backups etc all adding to the margin.

This is the standard criteria for any product really when it comes to any of business requirements.

ISP for business,

Realtime feedback if there are problems. (lost of speed, connectivity)
Good support.
Reliable speeds and quality
Good VPN backbone.
