Question of the Day: How do you normally pay for purchases in stores?
What do you want from your ISP?

2. Low latency
3. Stability / up time
4. No shaping
5. Network notices (as long as I'm informed there's a problem and they're aware of it and working on it, I'm happy to wait)
6. Knowledgeable support for those occasions where the problem may be isolated to my connection.
I'll happily pay for a capped, unshaped offering over an uncapped, shaped offering, provided the ISP can provide the above criteria.

At a competitive price
First post that said SLA's. It is a given that uptime will never be 100% but when a SLA is in place you know the maximum time you will be down for. After that it is gimme your monies!

I want the following from my ISP
- Account manager that understands the business and technical aspects
- SLAs that is fair and keeps the business running and reacts as specified
- Fair pricing and flexibility to adjust as the market changes
- Contract flexibility
- No shaping what so ever - unless I as the client request it
- Coverage and quick setup
- Effective business solutions

Would be nice if could host multiple server instances locally at a price offered by Amazon Web Services - with the option to take physical HDDs and load when necessary. To upload a cloned instance of a Production environment that is 1TB - 20TB, is just not possible in this country.

Summary: *STOP BLENDED METERING*
For small businesses who need fast lines (4-10Mbps), but don't want the massive expenditure of the Fast line & Uncapped combo, we need better CAP Utilization in terms of LOCAL vs. INTERNATIONAL bandwidth.
For example:
Our business has 9GB International Bandwidth, and 30GB Local.
However, our local usage far outweighs our international usage, resulting in our international bandwidth being capped the moment we reach 9GB, even-though the bulk of the data usage (say 8GB) was actually local traffic. Due to this we have no international internet access and we are forced to buy more GB's.
So, in lay mans terms, we are actually paying international rates for our local bandwidth.
So what we want from our ISP... please stop metering our bandwidth as "blended", cap us on local when we exceed our local cap, and cap us on international when we exceed our international cap.

Consistent low latency connections. No unexplained disconnects.
I'll pay more per GB if these things can be ensured. I'm yet to see an ISP that delivers on these all day every day. They all (the 4 I've tried) have their good and bad times so far.
Asking for Tech support is like asking them to fail but handling it well. If my ISP delivers they don't need tech support at all.

Maybe my ISP understands my data requirements, but Telkom certainly does not! 384kbps ADSL is simply snail-paced these days. They can easily afford to upgrade our line speed to 4Mbps without any additional cost to us.
