Hi

Bare with me, haven't been a crackberry addict for very long.
How do I know what data is covered by my Blackberry enabled contract?

I know email, browsing etc are all "included" for the price I pay, but how do I know if my youtube or google maps etc data are 'free' with my BIS ?

I dont want to be using maps all day just to find out I have to cought up R___ per MB for it.

Thanks :D

Most default applications is BIS covered.

The way that I look if my applications is on BIS is with the icons on the home screen.
If your 3G is in capital letters with the Blackberry icon that is BIS, so is EDGE and GPRS with capital letters.

If the 3g, edge and gprs is displayed you know that you are not running on the BIS network.

If I load a new program, I then just switch to homescreen to check if the icon is still in capital letters otherwise I know its not running on BIS.

Thats a good point.
But damn scary. One moment you are covered by BIS, next moment (unknowningly) you are paying per MB :)

In my case I also have a 2gb bolt-on bundle loaded that is used for the E172 modem and what not for "internet" and our corporate apn.
If I am charged on the BB , it will deduct off the bolt-on.
I would recommend a MyMeg 250 or more depending on your requirements.

Thats a good point.

Very good point.
Im sure the networks cash in nice on this trick. It would have been simple for them to just route ANY traffic through BIS, be it on gprs or 3G<fancy logo here> or whatever.

Thanks for the bolt-on idea Fismail.

The topic has been covered at length on this forum.

BIS, a product by RIM, not the networks, have got some limitations. Typically on file sizes for downloads and streaming applications such as YouTube.

My own Blackberry clearly states that I'm leaving BIS and I'm on normal charges when I browse to a site like YouTube.

But the typical BB user will not easily bump into these limitations.

Ok, so it has been covered at length. I did search, it's not an easy one to find.
So I can assume the Youtube app is excluded. It would have been nice to KNOW the limitations ;)
Im not complaining, having no limits sets it open for abuse by the typical mallrat.

is there a way to check data balance on vodacom?
Just so i can at least follow my usage which is isnt covered by BIS

Ah thanks, but Ive been trying that for weeks.
Balances under account info always give an error :(
Their reply on cc is "clear your browser cache". I gave up.
