What makes Openserve FUP different?

I noticed Home Connect has a separate, more strict FUP for Openserve clients.

https://home-connect.co.za/fair-use-policy-fup/

I am curious as to how FNOs bill ISPs and what makes Openserve different.

My theory was that ISPs got billed twice.
first a fee for each customer's connection.
second a fee for the total available capacity that the FNO can hand off to the ISP at any given time.

FUP? That's something I haven't seen in a long time. No FUP with Afrihost and Openserve (That I know of).

I believe the problem is Home Connect.

Hi.

This is a conversation I had with a support/sales agent from Afrihost's WhatsApp line.

[15:49, 12/25/2025] DashPole: Do you have a FUP on all openserve packages?
[15:50, 12/25/2025] Afrihost: Hi there. Yes, Openserve does apply a Fair Usage Policy (FUP) across their packages to ensure fair network usage.

Make of that what you will.

Hi,

There is no Fair Use Policy (FUP) on our Openserve Fibre packages.
Apologies for the confusion, it appears the agent may have misunderstood the query.

Please note that our fibre services are subject to our Acceptable Use Policy (AUP), which governs appropriate usage and prohibits abuse of the service.

Openserve would apply fups on packages they are the ISP on like webconnect. As ISPs we typically have AUPs not so much FUPs.

Openserve is the fibre provider and isp, your “ISP” is just a reseller / billing you. Your traffic never hits the ISP billing you, with opeserve home connect

Whois your public IP to see who owns it for proof
