What PC Parts :(

Yeah will just squash it for now.

But other builds I've seen haven't had that problem.

But now I've got a bigger problem - the system won't boot.

You press the power button and fans go on for a split second and off again.
I've disconnected GPU and both ram sticks but same thing happens. Any suggestions?

Check all power cables.

Did you maybe forget the CPU 4 pin.
 
Once I press the power button, the fans literally spin for a split second and then off again.

No beeps or sounds or nothing.

Best to isolate the problem, remove the GPU and one stick of RAM, then unplug the CPU and Motherboard power completely and plug it back in, if your system then starts, you add the other stick of RAM and try again etc.

Will try that now.
Already tried without GPU and no ram at all but same problem.

Hopefully something will change this time.
 
Still the same outcome.

Even with no RAM or GPU connected. You roses the power button the fans go on and then immediately off again.

Everything is brand new except the mobo and CPU which I bought from PotterH.

I honestly don't know what else I must do.

I can only think something isn't getting power or RAM issue, can you maybe use the RAM in you Plex server to test.

Still doing the same. Tried in every DIMM slot and nothing but power cable connected to PC.

The PSU fan doesn't even have time to start, the blade moves down one position.

I'm honestly lost as I have tried everything.
 
I don't know what to tell you, can't really do troubleshooting without physically being there.

Hopefully another member can help you out, maybe even someone close to you.

Did you check for any bent CPU pins?
 
Have just take it apart and tested outside case to check if there were any faults but had same problem.

Going to try the CPU and ram in my plex server and see if it not maybe the mobo.
 
Not booting at all sounds like the CPU tbh.

If it's a dead CPU potter will exchange it no problem. It's either the CPU or the Mobo. Or some power cable not connected :p
 
That symptom of the fans spinning up briefly and then shutting down again could also be the PSU, I've had that with a few PSU's before that decided to croak.

weelzSA try and power the mb/cpu/ram off the plex server's PSU. If the cables are long enough you can just disconnect them and route them outside the case for testing. And yes new PSU's can be DOA.

That's one of the first things I tried to do but had the same issue.
 
I've just moved the CPU and ram to my plex server and the PC boots up perfectly. So I'm now 100% sure it's the motherboard.

Windows picks up i5 4570 and 8gb ram.

Running CPU-Z and single thread score is 1520 and multi thread is 6003 - does that seem correct?

Haha, I checked the power cables thousands of times. I'm pretty sure I can even remember each colour of the wires without even looking again and tell you exact number of individual wires.

Lol, I didn't even know CPU-Z had a benchmarking feature.
