So luck clearly isn't on my side!!!

I just received the replacement motherboard and when I went to install the CPU cooler I realised I did not remove the back plate from the old motherboard so now I need to buy a new cooler.

Would this one fit my board and case etc: Cooler Master Hyper TX3 EVO - R449

I'd preferably like to go and get one today as it is a long weekend this weekend and getting rather impatient

I thought of going AIO Water-cooling cause it looks much nicer and if I ever upgrade my CPU I can re-sue it (I think) but they are quite pricey so might look into that at a later stage.

So will this cooler fit or is there something else that is better?

The original motherboard I was sent had the CPU and cooler pre-installed. So when I had to send it back, I had to remove the CPU, cooler and RAM which I did but I did not receive the backplate (goes on at the back of the motherboard) which the cooler screws into - make sense now?

This case is proving to only give me more problems than anything else! It seems I am going to have to order one online then if I can't find a walk in store and then wait another week to build...

I think he means some CPU coolers have a plate you mount underneath the mobo, which you then afix the heatsink to by screwing through holes in the mobo. He forgot to remove that plate.

weelz, can't you ask the place you returned the mobo to if they can give your back plate back?

That's the thing with compact cases like mATX and mITX, you have to have the EXACT measurements of everything.

I don't know which places are around you but you could go to your local PC shop or Matrix Warehouse and buy a cheap HSF just to get you up and running. My i5 4590 under 100% load never goes above 65°C with the stock cooler.

Yeah I am going to try my local ones, there is a Computer Mania close by and then also a Matrix a little further up. Computer Mania have the above mentioned one, will need to find out if they have any others.

Just check that it's height not exceed 120mm.

Is that the one from Matrix, if it is it's the same one I have in my Plex sever cooling a G3258 and it hasn't gone above 51°C in the last week even when transcoding 1080P HEVC files.

I'm pretty sure 90% of aftermarket coolers will perform better than the Intel supplied ones.

OK great, might just take a drive down there later and go get one.

Computer Mania also have Cooler Master Standard CPU coolers for the same price so not sure which to go for. I suppose either will do there job?

Either or will do, maybe just check each of the sites for noise and air flow.

Yeah will have a look.

Hoping in the next month or two to go am AIO cooler even tho it not necessary, it still looks much nicer and can keep it for later upgrade down the road hopefully. It either that, or spend half the cash on a decent CPU cooler next month.

Seems like a plan, you will then also be prepared for when you buy something like the 4790K in a couple of years.

Yeah that's my thought. But will see how it goes.

Probably going to end up buying one from computer mania, going to be there anyway. So hopefully will be able to build the PC later or tomorrow morning.

So I finally built the PC yesterday and have it up and running.

One problem I have is the GPU fans never come on The GPU is working but the second I try run anything a little intensive, the monitor shuts off (the PC stays on but I have to do a hard reset. Any suggestions?

Whats your GPU? Which windows do you have. Have you tried removing all traces of your driver and re installing fresh

Its the Radeon Sapphire R9 380X.

It was a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro and then I downloaded the latest driver from the Radeon site.

Do the fans spin up briefly as you power the pc on? Most GPUs these days the fans will not turn on on until it reaches X temperature.
Check the radeon software for fan profiles or try using msi afterburner and manually over ride the fan controls.

If you can't get the fans to spin up at all then it's faulty.

I just downloaded Trixx and I saw the fan was set to automatic and 20%. When I run Unigine Benchmark, the fans would never come on and the Display would shut off after the first couple of scenes. I went back and set to "Fixed" and 51% fan speed and it made it thru the benchmark so that is atleast good.

It just makes no sense to me why it would shut down when set to automatic - the temps showed it staying at 62 degrees but still shut down. Is it safe to keep the fans on all the time? Or is there something else you suggest maybe? Atlas it made it through the benchmark now so that is atlas a positive.

Will have to check when I restart the pc again if fans start up when booting.

^^, I would return it just for peace of mind...I can't see how software should disable the fan to the point the GPU switches off. That can't be right.

Yeah it's very weird. In the Strixx OC software, it's set to Automatic and fan speed 20% but then fans don't move. Once I change to fixed and set to 50% fan speed, the fans work and Unigine can finish without any problems.

When I first ran the tests and it shut down, then temp never went above 62 degrees either.

I have emailed Rebeltech to see if they know of this issue or fixes.
