1980 Ford Sierra XR6. My dad bought it when I was 3 and gave it to me when I was 18.

My first motorcar was a gift from my Dad. In 1974 he gave me his 1970 Peugeot 404 sedan which by then had 156,000 km on its odometer. I sold it to a friend who wanted it for his wife. It then had covered 417,000 km and was on only its 5th set of Michelin tyres. I still hanker after it sometimes when I see a similar vehicle on the road. The cost when new was just R 2,653.00 including on the road costs and optional Michelin X radials.
My first car: A 1982 BMW 318i. I 'inherited' it from Grandfather in 1995 when it it had over 300K and a seized engine. I rebuilt it myself and probably spent a total of around R3000.00 to get it running including a colour change.... Unfortunately we didnt photograph everything back then so no photos.

Lada was mine. And no, the 2CV wins hands down.
CAR mag did a piece a long while back on the top 100 cars of all time, IIRC the Citroen was first. Beetle probably second.

Mine was a 2006 Ford Ka. Got my drivers in that car. The thermostat refused to open when the hot water flowed out of the engine block so it would overheat and then the heater got jammed on so we had to bypass the whole heating solenoid in the firewall. Probably one of the best first cars money can by (other than the overheating issues, which was common on both these and the Bantam 1.3s as they were the same engine) as it was fairly fuel efficient, relatively easy to maintain and it didn't have an RPM gauge which meant that you had to actually listen to your car versus just changing gears when the dial reaches 3000. Ended up selling it and made 5k profit for my next car

My first car was a Hillman Vogue which had a peugeot 1.8L motor. Fast and reliable. Bought it for R450-00 in 1980

Mine was a new White 1987 Opel Kadett GSI 1.8 T-Car. Drove it until 2009 when it was stolen!

My forst car was a 1978 Canary yellow VW Passat Wagon.
We could load tons of students in ... but somehow we used to always run out of petrol :-(

Austin Mini 1000
I bought a 1972 Austin Mini 1000 for £150. It was originally a boring beige colour, but the guy who sold it resprayed it black and I put on some gold stripes. I also replaced the standard 10 inch wheels with 12 inch wheels from a Hillman Imp and painted these gold. It only had 45K miles on the clock, so the engine ran great. Living in rainy Glasgow caused the body to rust like mad. We patched up holes around the front wings and scuttle and had to have new cills welded on. Both doors dropped due to rusty mounting points. The top of the rear suspension turret failed and this banged into the fuel tank one day - another welding job!
I learned to drive in this car and had a driving instructor who took me out for lessons. This guy was a chain smoker and would smoke in the car. One day there was an acrid burning smell and the car spluttered then stalled. I coasted to a halt to realise that there was a fie in the engine bay! The petrol pipe had come off the carb and sprayed fuel onto the hot exhaust manifold and ignited. The acrid smell was the plastic air fllter housing melting. The fire soon stopped and we removed the air filter housing and the instructor drove the car back to my house. I went to a scrap yard and found a 1.5in carb and bigger air filter housing from an auto Mini, so the car got a slight upgrade from the standard 1.25in carb. Going to the scrap yard was an eye opener, as there were several Minis there that looked in better condition than my old banger! I held onto the car for about 2 years and sold it for £110 to a woman who was learning to drive.
