So - considering its an apparent recession in SA - what was your salary increase percentage?

I've been offered 5% - which, to me, is a decrease of 3% considering inflation year on year, is 8%.

I'm probably going to look elsewhere, as I'm not to happy here anyways.

You do what you need to do boet!

But I suggest maybe asking for more first, then justifying it.

I shouldn't need to justify my salary staying the same - 8% means my salary is the same as last year this time.

I've averaged about 15% the past couple of years, 2005 and 2006 were each 40%...

Funny thing is, I started with this company a year ago - and at the time I though to myself that this will probably happen next year - spot on I guess.

I recon I'll probably resign for anything less than 10%....

Did a proposal for some private work today - they'll probably offer me a job offering slightly more than the 5% they're offering - and I'll probably take it.

I don't want to work for a company that works like an insurance company, they first wait till you find other work that pays more before matching that offer or beating it.

i generally get >10% every year for past ... many... years.
but then again, I do put in way more hours than I 'have' to, (IT job)
and I generally get more works also every year.

So do I, timesheet usually has around 40+ hours overtime...

Thing is - I'm going to tell them that if I do stay, I'm only willing to work 120 hours a month, 4 days a week - I'll then do what I did before them, and earn more money doing private work.
