WhatsApp from your PC

Nope. My phone scanned the code before I even aimed the camera at it properly.

Yes, I have a very small screen Samsung - at the bottom of the animated diagram you should see "OK, got it" - but my phone doesn't show it :-(

And if you press the back button? Time to get a new phone perhaps...

Am I missing something.

This feature of WhatsApp is simply for use via the web.

What does it have to do with Android or Chrome.

I'm using a Windows Phone and WhatsApp updated today and it works like a charm.

Can someone tell me what web based WhatsApp has to do with Chrome or Android specifically?

Edit:

Okay. My bad.

I see it only works with Chrome browsers. Not working on Firefox. :D :p

Still beats me why I have to jump through hoops to install on my tablet (which can handle voice and sms), yet I can install on my pc, which I don't really want...

Would be interested to hear how other users compare this new WhatsApp to Skype. I have been using Skype on my laptop and Samsung S4 for quite some time now as well as WhatsApp on my S4 and after installing WhatsApp on my laptop today I honestly don't really see much difference between the two. One thing I do miss on WhatsApp is an icon to put in the intray at the bottom of the screen like Skype. It seems with WhatsApp you have to have your browser open at all times to use it successfully.
Looking forward to hearing comments from others.

It works fine with Opera. They're both based on Chromium.

only issue with this is I know several people who would want to access whatsapp through their webbrowser when their phone is out of juice or can't connect to a cell tower / wifi for internet, but they have a physical internet connection. So basically useless to 80% of the people looking for a solution like that and useful for the other 10% who wants to chat to ppl during working without looking like they're busy on their phone all the time...

Haha lucky on our work network Whatsapp Web is disabled, now we can spot people parking on their phones the whole day.

Yes, and the option is not there!

It is there. I've used Chrome for years on a number of mobile devices and it's always been there. Are your apps possibly a decade out of date?

If your phone is beside you and you're having a conversation on your desktop, is there any way to stop the notification on your phone every time you receive a message?

A tad annoying that you have to have your phone beside you and the conversation 'open'.

I actually like the because I don't have to turn my screen on continually that eats my battery. At the end of the day I have 20% more battery power than usual. Also far more convenient.
