WhatsApp from your PC

I wonder if it shows as online or read message all day when connected to the PC?

The fact that it still needs to be connected to your phone is laughable.

No, it's expected. WhatsApp does not sync your activity to a cloud, and therefore cannot possibly provide a web service without being connected to your phone. Your contact list and chats don't exist anywhere but on your phone.

If you want a chat service that stores your activity on their servers, then find another chat app.

If they made a desktop application it could keep its own contact list. I think the real reason it needs to be connected to your phone is because of the poor security.
Do you know how to change your WhatsApp password?

What part of 'no cloud' don't you understand? WhatsApp don't store your contacts or chats online. The web app can't function independently of the mobile app or it would be useless, because you'd have two contact lists and your messages wouldn't be in sync. It has to be identical, and that means tethering to the mobile app. That is the one and only reason.

WhatsApp has no password. It relies on the fact that you're using the number of the account to authenticate you.

WhatsApp uses a modified version of XMPP. It definitely does have a username (your phone number) and a password (in various versions based on your IMEI or your WLAN MAC).

Edit: WhatsApp do have all your contacts:
WhatsApp syncs your all contacts (including those not on WhatsApp) every hour. For 100 contacts this will be about 6MB a month. I don't know if this overhead is included in WhatsApp's usage report.

What is the difference between this and using an emulator? Havn't tried it but i assume it would be possible (Using bluestacks)

Yes, it does work on Bluestacks, but you can only have one device active at a time.

The moment you activate Whatsapp on Bluestacks, the one on your phone will give an error message.
