Whatsapp

I am of the view that this tread should be moved to "Cellular: Mobile Phones, Call Contracts, Content, MMS and SMS" simply because WHATSAPP is not a Microsoft product or Windows Phone product but a crap copy of Microsoft's own IM products ie. Messenger and Skype. Mod please move this tread as requested.

The problem is exclusive to WM

Personally I'm glad this thread is placed where it is, as my upgrade is due and i'm considering the Lumia but i'm waiting until this Whatsapp issue is resolved, an issue I wouldn't have been aware of had I not come to the 'Windows Mobile' section to do research on my potential new platform

And Whatsapp / MSN serve very different purposes, I dont think you can call Whatsapp a rip off of MSN any more than you can call MSN a rip off of IRC, or the telegram

I don't have any problems with WA on my Galaxy S. It's just the Lumia.

I have to say since about midday it's been receiving messages quite well. Not much delay at all actually. Anybody else getting improvements?

WA has nothing to do with IM. It's more like an SMS replacement.

Seemed pretty good last night, Im cautiously optimistic

WhatsApp is a non Microsoft Windows Phone application, thus also known as a 3rd party application- use it on a Windows/ Microsoft environment expect problems as with any 3rd party application on your desktop PC. Having this App invites a visit from "Uncle Murphy" - Murphy's Law. This Tread does not belong here - please move it Mod.
WhataApp is TRASH/CRAP rather use the Messenger/Skype with your Windows Phone if you have to use IM platforms - These Microsoft IM applications work and function seamlessly on these devices - because they are NOT 3rd party apps.

Apparently this is something of an 'issue' for you.

So you're implying that people that want to use 3rd party apps reliably should not use Windows Phone?
With conditions like these, people would end up choosing a different phone rather than a different IM app.
And this thread actually does belong here, since these are issues that occur with a 3rd party app specifically on Windows Phone, yet the app seems to work fine on other platforms.

Apparently this is something of an 'issue' for you.

Seems like it is.

Erm, whatsapp works perfectly well on Android and iOS, you may have heard of these before... That's the problem I had with WP, the native stuff works ok but then all the third party apps are either things you need that don't work well on WP (like whatsapp) or they were just a load of crap anyway.

Can you name a few examples of that? Yes whatsapp is crap. But that's one app. Generally the app portfolio of Windows Phone is pretty good. There are tons of great apps.

TBH then it's like having BBM.. only being able to talk to people who has devices of the same type/make.
Thing about Whatsapp or even MXit is that you can talk to people who has pretty much any phone.

those MS IM apps might be awesome on their OS but try it on others and it will pretty much be same issues reversed.

I have a Lumia 800 and for example NEWS24 and MetroTube is some of the 3rd Party apps I used... uhm... they're pretty friggen awesome tbh. Then theres's AccuWeather, TheChive(), and our very own RogueCode's Relaxify... come on, test a few other apps first.

Relaxify was about the most useful app I had on my windows phone (which I tried for 6 months btw). News24 was ok, the android one is actually quite impressive. Not sure if they've put the same updates into the WP one now. Youtube worked but I actually preferred to select "play on xbmc" on android and play it on my tv.

I can't agree that there are 'tons' of great apps. There are some - in general apps are better the more they get the design language of Metro - but the big names are just missing, or dialed in. Metro as a mobile design framework is a really stunning way of laying out information on a small touchscreen but it's often mistaken for 'live tiles' or 'Segoe'.

I agree with you. I got given a Samsung Focus Flash running Mango a while ago and I struggled with it, I loved everything about it except for the app selection and whatsapp (an application which I use alot) just fails miserably on WP. This is not an attack on Microsoft, I know it is a third party app. Even facebook is "strange" for me, it doesnt feel like facebook. my friends say that there is no dedicated twitter app on windows rt yet either, this is a big problem.

Why is that a problem? MetroTwit, Tweetro, Fliptoast, etc etc are all great Twitter clients.
The official Twitter apps suck anyway.

Is this whatsapp issue any closer to being resolved?
It should be a priority for both MS and Whatsapp, its probably used by more people than SMS

Must say mine seems a whole lot better. Occassionally there is still a delay when receiving messages, but not nearly as bad as it was.

I havent checked market place to see if its back yet

Yeah it's quite much improved. To the point that MrsC can use it pretty well. I'm very glad.
