When marrying, which surname do you take?

a change of name is declaration of power...

for me it goes without saying, the i marry if ever i should marry, will use my surname...

we are not equal... there for, my wife will have to change her surname...

Goodness frikkin godness, what century are you living in? Will you allow her out the house every 4 years to vote or is that still forbidden in the space-time gap you're living in?

My missus is keeping her surname as Dr Franken is just SO much rarer than Dr du Plessis and I really don't blame her for it. Our kids are getting my surname though.

Shame, you already hate your kids...:p

NO

Take my surname? Why should I just give it away??

Earn it.
:P

You pay for the privilege of a lady deeming to take your surname.
What can I say - they're going to look mighty foolish if the name on their ID doesnt match the Property of . . . tattoo.

Besides - what woman wouldnt want to have the same surname as her children?

Who says the children are getting your surname?

Me. The missus was really out of it when it came time to fill in the paper work anyway so I pretty much had free reign.

Of course the girls will want to change it when they get married.

Really?

EDIT: I'm not saying that they won't want to change it. They might choose to change it; they might not.

hmm interesting thread... i have a double barelled surname (one which is reasonably difficult for some people to say, but which is easy)

And i donno i think a marriage is unity meaning togetherness and i would like to be called mr and mrs (input surname here) and not mr. "mo" and mrs "gold" or something like that.

This is so funny and I can't understand what the big debate is.

It's pretty simple 98% of the time it's the woman who wants to get married and puts presure on the guy. Just lay down the terms or she doesn't get married. It's rather simple, my surname or we don't get married. These woman who want to have these funny double barrel surnames and what not should just be sorted out straight of the bat. At least that way you can still knock her and not worry about getting married :p

I always suspected you are Dirk Prinsloo.

Thanks for the confirmation.
