I love the Passat or VW cc. One came driving up behind me one evening and I saw all the pretty lights all over the place behind me. Had to slow down and get in behind him to figure out what car he was driving.
I'm driving the VW Golf 6 GTI and the car is amazing. It gives out 8kW more power than its predecessor while reducing fuel consumption by almost 3L/100km. The first car I've driven that gives me over 10km/l.
I usually drive a car until the warrantee expires, but with this one, I think I'll try to extend the warrantee to 5 years as I don't see any other car in that price class to replace mine with. Nothing speaks to me (except the new GTI 35 edition of course).
If I should however upgrade from VW, my vote would be for Audi. It is a decent sporty car and not so much a status-symbol like BMW. Just go for the A4 or up. The last time I checked, the A3 / A3 Sportback still had the old spec engines (same as in the Golf 5 GTI). I didn't have any issues with mine, but I've heard some horror stories about those engines once they go over 110000km plus the fuel consumption sucks. The A4 is available in the new spec engine (155kw), same as the Golf 6 GTI.
If I was over 50, I might have considered Merc
Volvo... their slogan is "Volvo for Life"... that is very accurate
I've always liked Honda... good quality car, but they don't turbo charge their engines and I'm done with normal aspirated cars. It's hard to go back once you've driven a turbo car.
