Help a fellow forum member out please:
From reading the forum I am aware of who to avoid but it seems that Cool Ideas is the best out of the bunch.
But if I go into the feedback thread it appears people are having issues?

Im with CISP on the Openserve network, no issues. What network do you have available?

Most of the issues if you read through the Cool Ideas thread is generally not on the ISP side but the line provider.

I would definitely go with Cool Ideas. Even with issues they go out of their way to help.

Yeah I guess then that they can grind Octotel on my behalf if things aren't up to scratch. So then my bigger worry is the FISP, which by all accounts seems OK, except they seem to go down often... at least not as often as Telkom Mobile...

Been with Afrihost for a few years and no complaints so far. Have not tried any other ISP though so tough to compare.

I was about to sign up with Afrihost but saw they supply the D-Link DIR-825 router with their FTTH deals. This router according to the D-Link website is discontinued and free support stopped in 2015. Now I'm having doubts...didn't Afrihost win best ISP of the year a number of years? If so, with this sort of dishonesty...? Eish?!

Cool ideas.....the thread is for power users those guys who just use more than internet.

On the 100mb package with cool ideas and zero issues for me so far

Anything but Vox. They cant even get my Fiber order right.

you could install your own router, just get config info from them, and manage the router yourself

On Octotel and just moved to CISP from RSAWeb. RSAWeb was good in the beginning, but I think they grew too large too quickly. Started a tiered Support structure and all went to hell from there. Have been with CISP for two months and have had no reason to phone support since being connected. PBCool is very active on this forum and if you have any issues he's very helpful. I'm not an Octotel fan (they close at 16:30 in the afternoon and over weekends and to hell with their customers), but luckily have not had too many reasons to have them do anything after installation.

Many ISPs you can choose from. Just don't lock yourself into a contract. CI is becoming too big for my liking which is why people are starting to have all the issues.

Yeah, been there. Done that. Have the cancelled contract to prove it :-)
Years ago when Cybersmart were young, small and enthusiastic, they had the best prices in the business and super support. As a web developer I could phone a get technical assistance with hosting issues or my normal home ADSL. Then they got bigger, slower, not so cheap anymore and support became the usual take-a-number-and-wait in the queue. Then when your call eventually gets answered you often end up releasing you have more technical know-how than the person on the end of the line. Seems to be the natural life-cycle of SA ISPs... sigh...

+1 for CISP - been with them for a few months now and not a single issue (fibre is through FrogFoot)

Have put a lot of people onto CISP (around 45 now) and while there 1 or 2 install/setup issues; they were all resolved quickly and efficiently + not a single complaint from any of my customers so far.

This is what worries me.. I posted a simple request to them for info.. no response..
If it becomes like with AfriFail, of people having to resort to posting on MyBB to get any attention, then I start getting very worried.

Also, no worries, I don't do contracts, not ever! Prepaid/Month-2-month or nothing.
