Go for a good, wired, ergonomic optical LED based mouse. I don't have much experience with mice so I best not recommend anything I've never used myself.

I have one of THESE and i enjoy it quite a lot. been using it for about 7 months and ive had no problems, comes with extra PTFE feet as well.

Edit 5000 dpi is cool if youre one of these steady handed types. but other than that its a bit over the top. I stick to around the 800-3200 range a lot of the time.

However... that "article" doesn't say much which one is the better. Just aggregated pictures and pricing.

The OP states: R150-R500

Which one in that article falls in that range?

@ OP

Only one I have that falls in your budget is the Razer Abyssus. Nothing fancy though... On my other box I have the kone + however that was around R900. For anyone thinking about going the kone + route, make sure you grab the xp version of it where they apparently fixed the scrolling issue.

Here is a few that falls in your pricing range:

I'll easily recommend the Zalman ZM-GM1 if you can find one. Had the mouse for just over a year and it was amazing! Best price for features and performance on a budget. I now use a SteelSeries Sensei [RAW] and I don't like it at all. It's not at the same level as the cheaper Zalman mouse I owned.

I've been using the Team Scorpion X-Luca.

http://www.teamscorpion.net/design3.php

I've been happy with it.
It was a bit big to start out with but now that I'm used to it I have no complaints.
Well except for the rubber layer over some areas that is wearing off but it doesn't effect the mouses functionality.

How are gamedias, sharkoon and gigabyte?(higher end GB mouse products)

Gigabyte > Gamdias > Sharkoon.

Sharkoon is junk imo. Toyed with two different ones and I was not impressed at all. The ergonomics are off....
Haven't used gamdias; they do look cool though.

If you could lift your budget to about R700, then you will have a lot more choices for something similar to your current mouse.

Just as the OP I'm also in the market for a new mouse. I'm looking to replace my Razer Imperator as the rubber coating on the thing has suddenly gone all iffy and sticky.

The mouse isn't even that old so I don't think I'll go the Razer route again.

I now use a SteelSeries Sensei [RAW] and I don't like it at all.

Any particular reason? I was actually considering the Sensei [RAW] as a replacement. To be honest I'm a bit lost as far as a new mouse is concerned. There is A LOT to choose from but I'm not keen on an over-the-top gaming mouse with adjustable everything. Just looking for a good quality product with good performance designed for claw grip.

At the end of the day choosing the right mouse is a very personal matter so it would have been nice if there was a place where one could go and test a large variety of mice.

The mouse just feels flimsy and the so called rubber coating is just a stupid gimmick. Had to RMA the mouse already since the paint-job came off and the cable started tearing. Low quality IMO. Comparing that the Zalman mouse I owned, the Zalman quality seemed better. How does the Steelseries fanboys feel about that?!

Personally I also like heavier mice. The Zalman was about 3x heavier (weight adjustable), without the weights it felt the same as the SSS. You said claw grip, thus the Steelseries should fall away already.

Personally I'm going for the Corsair M65 next, great mouse for the price!
