WHich is best? PLASMA vs. LCD vs. LED

...so the D5500 would work well and there is no "must" to take the D6000 ? No I'm not taking a plasma :erm:

Once an entry LCD (Samsung 5 Series) is running off an HD signal (HD PVR), entry plasma loses most of its advantage at motion handling. ;)

High end is another story. Plasma, as a technology, handles motion better. Once its potential is met, there is no argument. LCD is the one catching up with 100+Hz etc.

tbh it's confusing when you say that the 5 series is cool once it uses HD, I've looked for reviews on the D6000/D6600, but most of them seems negative. I mean that dude from cnet about all the tv's he reviews seems fail.... *shrugs*.

Which is funny if I compare those views to in store experience and HD content, the D6600/D6000 seems to do the job very well in fact.

Game/dion/makro/house home specials all are the 50hz or software 100hz tvs. That seems real waste and best is to just wait till I have that extra 2k to get the D6000 which is suppose to be leet, but I do read SD sucks a bit on it, which I still need to confirm myself in store.

Just which tvs was tvs and not some technological horror :mad:

If you still believe stigma after having been given hours of advice, then I doubt any more text will help unless you go view with your own eyes in a test room.

sigh, call it stupid or silly but I don't like the idea of what if it will burn it if it could burn in. If it does burn in can I get it repaired/swapped ?

Tbh I was talking about watching TV via SD decoder vs HD PVR. One is still better and bigger at a cheaper price, don't forget.

I've said it before, HD looks good on almost any HD TV. Don't compare in the store.

Pity you're not in Cape Town. I'd let you come over to see a Samsung plasma in action, with SD and HD content on mine.

Just do yourself a MyBb search on "plasma image burn". In the past 2+ years, you will find maybe 2 or 3 threads. You will find the same if not more for LCD burn...

You're worrying for nothing. We've already analysed that what you intend doing will not cause image burn.

What about games that does have same UI, I mean I would be playing hours and hours of Rift and the UI would never change. Meh, I should really just google how long of a time lapse is needed to cause a burn in. Suppose 8 hours of same UI would not be enough ?

IR is a result of repetitive image retention.

8 hours of the exact game with the exact UI, running high brightness/contrast... You will get some IR, nothing to worry about and normal operation. Gone in a few seconds of changing channel/source/refreshing static image area.

Yes you will probably eventually get burn if this is repeated.

But is that realistic? The UI not disappearing even once? No cut scenes or cinematics? No changing channel between? Nothing that acts as a "refresher"?

I think not. :erm:

Honestly, this image burn in thing has you duped!

MMO ?, but yes it's highly unlikely, but still if you are in the same zone for extended period of time then UI stays the same. Not like I'm going to play MMOs on my tv, I was just thinking of an example of fixed images.

Do not watch any 4:3 or 2.35:1 content during the first 100 hours of use. Most damage is done to the brand-new plasmas by inexperienced users. Plasmas are most susceptible to burn-in during the first 100 hours, and much more burn-in resistant after 1000 hours of use.

Restrict non-full-screen programming to 20% until 1000 hours. Plasma manufacturers also recommend limiting viewing of 4:3 or 2.35:1 programming to about 20% of overall viewing time after the first 100 hours and until 1000 hours. After that, your plasma is much less likely to take burn-in. Try watching 4:3 content in "stretched" or "fair" ("just") mode that fills the entire screen.

Fair enough. Personally not a MMO gamer.

Samsung claims their modern plasmas do not need breaking in. I still believe in it, just to be safe.

Burn in protection, pixel shift, and the screen sweeper option (which you could run every few hours) will protect you. ;)

You posted after my post the make and model. :confused:

Anyway that model has been discontinued and is a non US model number (240V) so hard to get a direct comparrison site. Only that it is max 200W usage from Samsung's site.

From what I have found your equivalent current 42 inch US model should be the N42C450 and for this model I found from a review site has average power consumption of 172.6W (minimum recommended backlight) average power consumption.
Couldn't find a 42 inch LED to compare but the 46 inch Samsung LED UN46D6000 from the same review site was 84.3 W (minimum recommended backlight) average power consumption.

So it seems the power usage of your 43 inch plasma is roughly double that of a 46 LED equivalent.
I would imagine when the screen sizes would be the same it would be a bit more than double power consumption so the statement even for your energy saving plasma model using 2 to 3 times more power consumption than the LED does sound right.

PS. I am not going to argue with you anymore. Your are too hardheaded.
 
with end of year bonuses burning holes in our pockets i think big screens are going to be a fav christmas purchase for many. This thread has changed my mind on the plasma vs lcd/led debate. Plasma it is then. Thanks ppl.
 
I haven't done the break-in period at all on my LG plasma. Just got it, set it up and started enjoying it. Some IR here and there, but goes away as soon as different content appears. As for gaming for 8 hours on end, I've done that as well. If the pixel shifter doesn't sort out the static UI, one cut scene in 8 hours, will definitely clear and change the screen. Burn-in, on today's plasma, even on my 2008 plasma, is a non-issue.
