Can the house alarm be connected? Ours has battery backup but it runs out in an hour or two.

Yeah it won't last long, that unit probably has 2 x 12v 12aH batteries inside it. You need a proper power bank, like the Ellies units that use 2x105aH batteries.
I think they around R6k ea plus batteries so you in for R10k.
Not cheap but you can get through load shedding with quite a few things and load shedding is here to stay for quite a bit I think, good luck
 
You only need a pure sinewave if you are using motors...such as a fridge.

Yes I totally agree, motors yes. I however have heard others posting that the sound out of a tv, hifi, radio etc from modified sinewave sounded absolutely terrible.
Maybe it was just a horrible china modified? I dunno
 
The amount of cash being spent on things doesn't make sense with the battery issues etc.

These are old pictures but it's a pure sign wave inverter with changeover wired into the DB items I only want to power (lights and plugs) with a changeover switch. Installation was maybe R1000 all in and the inverter wasn't that much plus 2 AGM batteries to power it (24v).

Provides between 2 and 5 hours dependant on load but it's always got the fridges and internet and lights on.

If I need to use my espresso machine I have to have the TVs lol

4 years old now, no issues on the batteries touch wood.

it would be great having an automatic switchover but I'd rather spend money on additional batteries/solar panels/inverters before I spend money on an electrician to come hook it all into my home grid.

PowerCon Raptor 2000vA lasts only 59min and you have to power off and on again, and then it will last another 59m, firmware is buggy, waiting feedback from EU website
Tested it on multiple sites with the same results.
UPS load was 4% according to the SMartCon UPS PC App (connected via USB to UPS)

Thanks for the advice. I had a tescom online ups, but it kept on getting a DC Bus overload (no idea what this means, over than speculating too much current inbound or the connected devices was overloading it). In the end I got myself a watt o meter, worked out the UPS requirements and ordering a new ups which hopefully arrives this Friday.

the batteries have been an absolute life saver during this past 2 week's rolling blackouts (SA name = load shedding??)
ha.


the last image shows new zero gauge cables (yes they're both red I know - sound shops only sell red...)
I added some tape to show which is positive VS negative

What size batteries are those ?
