Strange everyone says R299, but Liquor City Claremont is R339. They had the Peated, Sherry, Chardonnay, Classic and I think they might of even had the Cabernet, but I was in a hurry and my mind is not so good anymore
The liquor city near me has the peated and chardonnay for 299. The 12 year old is 399.

If I spend that much I would prefer Ardbeg, Laphroaig, or pay more for Talisker.

If Three Ships isn't your thing, sure.

I'm 100% a Three Ships fanboy and consider the Master's Collection to be ridiculously good value. Consider that the releases have been at most 4000 bottles (Pinotage) and are 'finished' for years in good quality casks. Consider that most distilleries even small ones like Kilchoman and Springbank have special releases that are roughly 5000 - 12000 bottles and these are usually premium priced (oddly Springbank is very good with their pricing but they're also harder and harder to get). They aren't mass-produced like any of those you named and are currently one-off releases. They are also bottled at a fairly decent strength usually above 46%. Also, have to consider that due to our climate the whisky 'ages' a bit quicker. Additionally, I'd say there's something more interesting especially with the Fino master's collection, it's a great example of Grain treated properly and not just as filler. With the most recent release yesterday we're getting single malt in a red wine cask finish for 3 years, that's just phenomenal.

Funnily I used to complain about the price of the 10yo and still think there should be a standard release at the R399 price point to compete with Glenfiddich 12. But for me, none of the above measure up to the current 10yo Three Ships and the 9yo Fino Master's Collection is in the same league as Lagavulin 16 for me, which is to say I have nothing against mass-produced whisky...I just think it's clear Three Ships is delivering exceptional stuff.

I actually went and bought a bottle of the Pinotage and the Fino MCs yesterday after the excitement of the Shiraz release. I have the Oloroso already and a spare unopened bottle to part ex for a PX if anyone is interested ;)

Yes those bottles flew off the shelves!!

I bought mine in the first 10 seconds, and then about a minute later took this photo:

So when's the rest up for sale on the website, now that the rather irrational frenzy is over?

Man, it's only a bit of fun to try and get a low number. I thought you as a collector would have liked to take part?

I'm using a USB to Ethernet adapter on my laptop. Just before it started I moved the adapter and lost my internet connection. By the time I had reconnected all the good numbers were gone. Smacked myself in the face

same pretty much, I wrote off Three Ships ages ago when all they sold was the cheapest of the cheap, the early equivalent of Three Ships Select I think

at the first whisky festival I attended they had the first ever Three Ships 10y single malt release available, after many laps trying all the "better brands" I thought what the hell, let's try this sorry excuse of a single malt, that's where it turned around quickly for me

I've gone through countless bottles of those, developed a healthy respect for Bain's and at the moment I have an open bottle of Bain's, open bottle of Three Ships 8yo Oloroso finish, another 8yo Oloroso finish still sealed and a 10yo single malt still sealed sitting on the shelf

have been on the distillery tour, tasted some of the other exclusive / limited releases, loved the private barrel collection cask strength that I got at Checkers some time ago and a little something is on its way:

probably fair to say I'm a fanboy too

Has anyone bought from ngf.co.za with delivery?

Don't want to blow a couple of grand on a bottle and they are a scam. Thanks
