Whisky Live in Cape Town was excellent last night. Tried lots of new ones and some old favorites.

Came away with a bottle of an unpeated Islay which was most excellent....

Other notable mentions for never before tried by me go to Bains single grain, Black Bottle, Glen Grant 12 year old (apparently not released yet but coming soon), Bunnahabain 12 and 18.

Things got really hazy towards the end of the night, but I recall the cheezy chips were also good :)

Same price as Makro.

Didn't know that but prices on the ones I did know were the same. The only decent discount I saw on any of the stuff they were selling was Johnny blue at R2k.

They also had a bottle of Glenfarclas something or other for R360,000

So after dipping into the bottle a bit the nose has really opened up nicely. Quiet enjoying this dram

I find that generally the nose and palate does differ between a newly opened bottle compared to having it opened for a couple of days.

The Glenmorangie Nectar D'or is currently a 12 year old whisky, can anyone tell me if a 15 year old version existed.

Bel-Airs. Northrding

I guess any Spar Tops will have, although this one has a rather impressive whiskey and tequila (mescal) range

Actually they all differ in what they stock. I've heard that the Bellairs spar is quite well stocked but are quite expensive when it comes to the rarer stuff that they stock.

The whisky is aged for 12 years in the standard barrels and then for an additional 3 years in the Sauternes Casks. So my guess is that the labelling requirements changed rather than the whisky being any different.

Actually all of them start out as the 10 year old and then the Lasantha/Quinta Ruban/Nectar D'or spend another 2 years in their finishing casks. That's the current offers which at all 12 years.

Aah, then yes, there used to be a 15 year version based on the ages I said. Definitely had an insert in one of the boxes that said 12 then 3. That was a Lasanta bottle.

Nice to know, didn't know they existed. The Quinta Ruban is my favourite of the range, I'd be so keen to taste the 15yr old is it existed.

I see Highland Black is No. 1. I buy Highland Queen from Checkers and it is very nice.
