Auchentoshan American Oak is my favourite cheapie single malt and on this topic, I have it on good authority that Bowmore No 1 is also good value at the price.
Maker's is a very serious bourbon. I have a bottle that I've been trying to get through for ages - i must really be in the mood to drink it. I much prefer Woodford Reserve ad Four Roses.
Try the Buffalo Trace, almost half the price and better than the Makers 46, IMHO.

I'll do so..... Thank you for the pointer. Very new to drinking whisky neat and still deciding on what i like. What i don't like is peat.

Me too. I have tried and tried and tried but anything even mildly peaty I skip.

Until you start second-guessing every whisky purchase based on how it may or may not bypass/satisfy your craving for Laphroaig/Lagavulin levels of peat
! I think it's lucky to not like peat, I mean I don't really like sweet whiskies, I have a half bottle of Glenmorangie 10 I just won't ever finish. haha.

That's where Highland varieties shine, IMO. The occasional Ardbeg is lovely, but I just drool over the "juicier", sweeter alternatives
