Jack is not bourbon. Try the Trace again and compare with a R300 scotch. The Trace is also difficult to get but more available than 3Ships bourbon.

I forgot to post that I did try some Buffalo Trace at the weekend both with and without ice. It was nice yes, but I guess one bourbon tastes much the same as the other to me and although you say Jack is not Bourbon, they all seem very similar. That chewing gum smell and taste over rides everything. I'm not saying I don't like it, I do, but I guess I'm too much of a novice to notice the difference.

Strictly speaking, Tennessee Whiskey is legally: "a straight Bourbon Whiskey produced in the State of Tennessee". Therefore Jack is Bourbon.

Jack Daniels is Bourbon. There aren't a lot of laws surrounding Bourbon, and Jack Daniels cover all of them. It's not great, but it's Bourbon.

PS: There's a difference between Bourbon and Straight Bourbon.

Thanks to @dualmeister for hanging onto bottle 88 for me and agreeing to a swap. I hope you enjoy the samples! Was nice to be able to put a face to the name!
