Why do you eat out?

I don't like to support restaurants because I can get the same food at half the price at home. And generally eating at home is healthier as I can set my own menu (i.e. more veg less carbs).

That said I still eat out roughly 4-6 times a month. Fast food maybe once a month. It is either a social gathering or I'm taking my partner out for a treat. Occasionally if we run out of groceries or time during the week.

Wife and I usually have breakfast/brunch on most days.

Reason? Normally out and about around that time, have just left a clean kitchen, don't want to have to clean it again and for less than R100 we get a pretty decent little breakfast with two cups of coffee thrown in...

Speaking of which, for a great steak in Pretoria, try Hinterland in the Club Centre, Hazelwood . Fabulous quality and made just the way you like it.

I came to this tread for the wrong reason, misleading title.

brekkie is one thing you dont mind actually going out for ..since most want to get shopping or house stuff done early

Nee *** man.

I want to say I've never had anything worse than Spur when it comes to steak, but I'm sure I've just blocked out those memories.

They aren't too bad when it comes to chicken wings or that hickory basted rib, but that's the sauce hiding the actual meat taste.

Let me guess, you have your steak done to super done with a ton of sauce?

That's not steak, that's charcoal and will always taste equally **** no matter who makes it or where it comes from.

Nope. Super juicy every time. ;) Still nice and pink inside.

Obviously you guys have had bad Spur experiences, but this one seems to perfect it most of the time.

Better steaks in PE? Squires, StageDoor, Mangiamo - they also make decent pizza, Zorba's, Two Olives…

Any in Pretoria? I'm not travelling to PE just for a steak...

I've tried Crawdaddy's and Blackwoods. Neither came close to that juicy Spur steak.

You don't read. Try Hinterland. The steak is gorgeous. They have their own butchery so you can buy your meat there too.
I like mine blue-to-rare, no sauce.

I wouldn't say it's impossible for a single Spur to get it right.

But you sure as hell won't get the exact same experience going to another one.

Indeed. I tried the one in the mall once. It was horrible, no sauce and too much salt/spice. My dad also tried the one on Jan Smuts in Randburg. The manager couldn't even cut it - was tough as ****.

This one on Jean Avenue, though. I can't say I've ever had a bad-tasting Lazy Aged there, and I've had at least 10, maybe closer to 15, in the last 6 years.

I hardly eat out.

Mostly because I'm a vegetarian and an Indian, so don't really enjoy eating roasted veggies as a meal. I prefer my curries. I do enjoy going to Indian restaurants but that's once in six weeks or so.

Your options are severely limited as a vegetarian.

Also, what makes it difficult is you hardly find the rarer veggies in JHB that I enjoy ( Ockra, Bitter Melon, various herbs like pumpkin and fenugreek etc)
