Why do you eat out?

SMH at anyone who actually likes the lump of leather drowned in MSG sauce that passes for a steak at Spur. Clearly you don't eat out much at good steakhouses.

What MSG sauce are you referring to? Every steakhouse, as far as I know, uses some form of sauce on their steak to get it juicy.

Anyways, back to topic.
Eat out due to wanting different cooking.
Go to Spur for the burger Monday, they make a quite good Bacon+Cheese beef burger.
Else I go out to random restaurant near the beach, I like the ocean air. (Ons huisie etc.)
Also a good italian place around the corner here near Bayside.

*braces for Steak-hipsters to lambast you*

They'd be right, though. If you need to slather your steak to death in sauce it isn't proper steak.

It's not slathered in steak, it's just some special sauce they braai it with - it kinda cooks in.

If that's not "proper steak", I'll just keep enjoying my "improper" steak.

If you're happy with your steak cooked that way, then that's fine - keep on enjoying it like that - I too felt that way before I learnt to enjoy good quality meat that was well prepared. But you should be aware that there is a whole world of taste out there that you're missing out on. If you just want the sauce, buy the burger - at least it's not tough to chew like many Spur steaks are.

There are those (myself included) who actually want the taste of the meat, not the sauce. That's why we order our steak blue or rare, and usually without a sauce. I don't season my steak at all when I'm braaiing - just have freshly ground salt and pepper there to dip it in to taste. If your meat is good, you don't need sauces. Slathering a steak in sauce is only necessary when the steak can't stand the scrutiny on it's own.

Cheat on the lifestyle.

Once every 2-3 months we go and gobble up a Toni's or Piza e Vino pizza.

Don't worry, I'll try that Hinterland restaurant/butchery, maybe I'm introduced to something out of this world. I am actually looking forward to it. :)

Eating out is expensive. Only on special occasions. otherwise I simply like to save my money as it doesn't bother me when its in my bank account.
