Why no Gaming ADSL Packages?

Why dont ISP's offer an online gaming ADSL package where gaming ports are given priority and P2P, browsing etc are secondary?

Anyone else agree?

Edit: most traffic abuse occurs from constant HTTP and P2P downloads, so surely a package could be tailored about gaming ports?
 
Which ports do every game use? Or would the ISP have to use SPI to determine if it's p2p traffic? :)

It's easier to prioritize a specific set of ports for business use ( 80,443,21,25 etc ) than inspect every IP packet to determine if it should be prioritized or not
 
I'm sure the ISP could keep a list or prioritized ports and update it accordingly.
 
You aren't really understanding the issue ;) There isn't a preset list of ports for gaming,they use any they like and maintaining a list of 100's or thousands of ports and inspect the packets to see if it's legitimate "gaming" traffic or p2p isn't really sensible

Take a look at http://portforward.com/cports.htm for an idea what kind of list they'd have to process for any traffic then
 
Nobody uses port based systems anymore...its way to easy to just run whatever you like over the "unshaped"/prioritized ports.

The current products work just fine for gaming, so I don't quite see a market niche for a gaming product.

Besides, most local gaming is unaffected more or less unaffected by shaping & the major intl types (WoW etc) are recognized by the DPI anyway.
 
Well there's unshaped, if you can live without a few organs you'll have to sell to afford it.

Also, most uncapped accounts work fine for gaming locally, and ok internationally as long as you're not playing shooters, but that's more to do with the long distances etc than shaping.
 
You can always give Web Africa a bash :)
We've got WAGE servers setup on our own network - so ping and latency times are always super low, plus the bandwidth isn't counted towards your cap!

Too bad it does not carry any game I play :(

But I am with WA anyway.

I don't see why people ask for these special packages. If an ISP optimises their network properly it shouldn't matter?

As great as that is, my gaming rig is also the households download and file distribution system due to its specs, to make effective use of a capped account for gaming I would have to invest in a sperate download PC which hardly seems worth it... Why dont they just make a normal uncapped gaming account? But anyways gaming works fine atm, touch wood...

You can't download and play online anyway. Must give you some serious lag.
 
Hey Jeff,

Not sure if this has been asked before, but is there any chance of expanding WAGE to include Xbox Live?
 
It's something that's definitely on the cards for WAGE. We're making WAGE as leet as possible :D
Details have been a little vague around Xbox Live though, so seems to be more of an on-going project for the moment. We'll keep everyone updated though.

Maybe we should take over PSN too :p More uptime is always FTW!
