Why should I vote the DA?

As a DA supporter I will firstly say that not all ANC members are bad people. For over a decade the best run municipality in this country was run by the ANC.

Yes, things have gotten better for the majority as the old government excluded all but a minority. No denying that the ANC has achieved a lot of good things that the media will never ever publish.

And ironic its only when these wonderful, but frustrated ANC members join opposition parties do we get to hear about what they did.

The reason why the DA is better than the ANC is because its a minority party, it needs to work much harder and better. Its more transparent, more inclusive and more accountable to its actions.
I think I can have a more matured debate with you. Not taking side or attacking my own experience. DA + 1

I dont care who you vote for, as long as its not the majority party...
Doesn't Necessarily make the ANC any weaker.
^ This is why i have such a bad attitude with votes and voting. if you have a solution, offer it, don't say "do anything BUT what you're doing now"
+1
I stand by the view point that the longer a political party remains in power - the more that party becomes lazy, corrupt etc etc. The only way to combat this is with threat of them losing and being thrown out.

DA is currently the closest thing to opposition to the ANC, and this is why I vote DA.

And with that said, I will also change my vote from DA to a 3rd party (or even the ANC after a bit) if the DA do ever win 2 consecutive elections.
+1 to a stronger opposition - for obvious reasons

I'd stake a fair whack on the fact that I do not think Helen Zille would EVER be found to have had R250 million rand renovations done on the compound for her and her endless husbands, multitude of kids and thousands of grand children.

:erm:

For the DA to have a majority share of the votes, where do you think these votes are going to come from?

Indians, Coloureds, or Whites? No sir.

THe DA will have to have a majority black vote, the people presently voting ANC and who are presently tolerating and agreeing with Zuma's marriage et cetera.

Furthermore, if the DA has a majority black vote then that same culture that produced Malema and Zuma will come through in the DA leadership. In fact the DA Leadership will be majority black.

The issue in SA is a conflict of culture, you may say polygamy is wrong but many people here in SA say its fine. What are you going to do if a person who practices polygamy is voted into leadership in the DA? Are you going to tell him to get lost?

Come on guys.

At least here we have one person who sees the dilemma the DA faces. The DA will remain an opposition party, albeit a strong one.

Interesting that you failed to pick up on the actual issue there and instead focused on the polygamy! You could only be an ANC member. The problem is not the thousands of family members but rather the waste of money!

Lol, do you think they give a ***** about the waste of money? Good Grief.

I vote DA every election, by the way.

Don't agree at all (with the Malema/zooma references). If you dont' tolerate corruption and PUNISH people that break the law (ala Shabir Shake sp?) you won't get a Malema etc. If people are accountable then it won't happen. It's when you let corruption slide that you get that...

Like the saying goes :All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing...

I don't have a problem with polygamy. If you are all consenting adults then have multiple wives or multiple husbands. None of my business.

I just have a problem with the state supporting spouses. Spouses should be supported out of your bloody salary, that is what it is for. If you can't support your spouse on your salary then she must get a job.

My problem with the ANC is things like the destruction of the economy and the rampant corruption. Those have nothing to do with culture.

Well good luck to you, I'm not even going to bother. I don't believe in wasting energy.

That's were you are mistaken. The evidence is right before you, and you refuse to see it.

Are you trying to suggest that black people are inherently corrupt on a cultural level? :wtf:

I feel I should warn you to be very careful here.

It's easier to say why you shouldn't vote anc. That should be enough; just don't vote anc.

I think the best reason to support the opposition is so you have a more accountable government. The more balanced a government is, the more accountable it is.

This. I may not agree with all the stances of the DA but man they would be worlds better than the current ANC crowd that are playing a "hide the pea" shell game with public money.

Might I add that the DA is also more transparent. Seems to me that they don't hide where the money is going and when errors occur they admit to them, find out who is responsible and deal with it.

The ANC does the bare minimum to create the illusion that they're making a difference in people's lives. They know all too well that the only benchmark for the masses in this country is the previous NP government's performance in terms of services provided (or rather not provided) for all of SA's people and so it is easy for them to claim they're for the people. When you had little before, anything over and above is an attractive alternative. Look at how the ANC is always trying to discredit the DA at every turn. It pains them greatly to have another political party demonstrate what good (or at least far better) governance really means. Sure, we don't know exactly how the DA would perform on a national level because we haven't yet seen it but I am willing to bet everything that it would be a vast improvement over what we're seeing currently. If we could somehow look at the current situation vs. the way things should or could be for the average person in SA, many would be in shock but alas, could've...would've...should've...doesn't help us now. We can't change the past and must look to the future.

What I am picking up from this thread is that most people voting for the DA have absolutely no allegiance to them. If they fsuk up we take our vote somewhere else. This is how a democracy should work. ANC supporters on the other hand seem to feel they owe it to the ANC to vote for them even if they fsuk up.

Exactly. Also, if they were to be voted out I'm confident they would step down without inciting a civil war or declaring a dicatorship.
