Why Solar is Not a F__up: Debunking Misconceptions

Today's a slow day. But not too worry. Still plenty of power to go through the night.

We will most prob use approximately 36%-40% through the night leaving us with 27% or 24% in the battery bank.

We prioritize what we plan on doing that requires alot of electricity throug the week when the sun shines.Screenshot_2023-03-25-17-27-23-68_53d78d31f5fddc7fa0cdf74ca6b9290c.jpg

I'm not sure I understand your point. My batteries are generally set to 30% SOC so they hit load shedding at least that, sometimes I change to 40% depending on the load shedding schedule (4 hours etc). But in this case loadshedding had come and gone in the middle of the night and I still had no power from the grid so the batteries were being used and they ran down to 6% before the solar picked them up again.

My inverter cuts out when my battery SoC reaches 20%. It has never happened before though.

Solar is awesome! I use it for heating and clothes drying.

Heating, I just let the sun shine on my skin. Clothes, I hang outside in the sun.

Also used it in a pinch to defrost a chicken.
How many panels you got? Ever tried disconnecting the inverter while powering a load?

i guess it depends on the battery. Pylon US series are 95% DOD and I think Hubble's are 100%.

Indeed. My LBSA batteries are also 100%. That’s the lowest they have ever been though and it’s not something I’d make a habit of, lowest has been 17% before that one time.

Even though those batteries can discharge to 0% theres actually still some juice in the bank. The bms cut's the power when the battery voltage reaches 3.2v per cell.

Byd and Hubble's bms are just well programmed. Still not recommended though

If the voltage drops below 3v then it's basically dead or if you do manage to get it going it will never be the same again.

why not do it on the odd occasion, as the poster above did? And are you sure ALL BMS' cut at exacty 3.2V? If so, why do some brands allow 100% DOD while others only allow for 80%?

Different BMS are programmed differently.just because the bms of hubble "allow" dod too 0% does not actually mean that the battery is at 0%

But if they're programmed differently, why do they all cut at 3.2V?

I didn't say all bms cut at 3.2v some could cut at 3.22v or 3.23v or even higher to prevent damage to the cells. It all comes down to how the manufacturer program their bms

Maybe you could explain what you meant in #88 then

So which of pylon, hubble and BYD cut at 3.2V?
Impossible to tell without monitoring the cells to see what They consider as 'V=0%'

I had lots of Hubble trouble with batteries not fully recharging. Turns out hubble bms was buggy. Before I updated the firmware the bms considered 3.0v to be 25% capacity. I discharged my batteries to 20%(sub 3v) and damaged the cells. They were never able to fully recharge after that even with a firmware update.I had to chuck them out and replace with a different brand.

Fiy heres a chart.Screenshot_2023-03-25-19-31-05-54_40deb401b9ffe8e1df2f1cc5ba480b12.jpg

So then why make the statement if you have absolutely nothing to back it up with?

Hey everyone,

While I understand that everyone is entitled to their own opinions, I believe that there are some misconceptions around solar power that need to be addressed.

First and foremost, solar energy is a renewable and reliable source of power that can help us reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. It is cost-effective in the long run, good for the environment, creates jobs, and is versatile in its applications.

Solar energy has come a long way in recent years, and advancements in technology have made it more efficient and affordable than ever before. While it may not be a perfect solution, it is certainly not a f__up, as some have suggested.

I encourage everyone to do their own research and educate themselves on the benefits of solar power. Let's start a conversation and share our knowledge and experiences with this incredible technology. Together, we can help create a cleaner and more sustainable future for generations to come.

So, what do you think? Is solar energy a f__up, or a game-changing technology that can help us address some of the world's most pressing challenges? Let's hear your thoughts in the comments below!
Ok, lets first get this out of the way:How do you claim your success-?
1-Immediately...Huge funfare and parties.
2-Short term.....Funfare and parties.
3-Medium term...Some parties
4-Long term ....Some smiles and joy.
5-For centuries to come.....Good it seems whatever it was, it works and is a benifit to mankind.

Renewables versus Oil:
Coal/Oil developoed over time from a low population number till today. So everything with it grow as populationnumbers increased.
Renewables are dumped on the earth population at 8 Billion scale., Now to begin with this is a totally different and unproven state of affairs compared to coal/oil.

Leadership:
Money:Nature....Resources....Population Numbers....Leadership Social-Intelligence controlling all this to the benifit of mankind......Now the lack of this type of intelligence had already begin showing clearly since 1992+.
During last 30 years resources had been waisted for next 500 years willy nilly digitally and its going stong.
When we un out of resources no money or anything representing it is worth nothing no much you printy of it, you die of starvation.

Renewables:
-It is good for remote places no argument.
-At 8 billion scale promise its going to be a case of Physical polution you nevr seen before, unless you can hold solar panels for one household in one hand. So this is coming.
-The cost initially may be subsidised to make it seems low, but taxes will rise to make up for its existance by municipalities, they want that money. So this is coming to your pocket.
-The future cost as we know today of aything digitally effected=Reboot....Update....Upgrade....Replace....in short order, keeping spare parts became a sin says certain boardrooms. So this is coming as well, you will keep on buying and spending in circles, and life for most just does not and just cannot work that way due to the closed system Earth and Nature. Resources are your boss in the end.

The only thing maybe in your favour would be that 2 generations from now would not know anything better after all previous generations died out, history will have zero value to them, as they live a dicarded type of life.
The future as is unknown at this rate of affairs........There are two scenarios that needs urgent attention going forward into the future sustainably:
1-The illicit drug trades and every evil that goes with it.
2-The Binary code and every abstract evil that goes with it since 1992+ It operates at a level the human brain s not used to thing, and that gap is exploited.
3-Casual wars and pandemics and terrorism.

So clean house 1st.......If you can that is.....LOts of COmmon SEnse
