It's best not to feed the trolls. The other day someone was ridiculed for not asking questions and someone said there's no such thing as a dumb question. Now for some reason only God knows what it's also not alright to ask questions.

I guess some people will be like that when defending "their" domains. Some people can't think far enough back to remember the time when they were in the same spot and also didn't know more than their arse but am now too glad to speak from it. Imo people like that usually don't get very far in life before they get what's coming to them.

I'm just glad there are still people that want to make a difference and setup something like a wisp and instead of belittling them I will rather support them. I hope he succeeds in doing it the correct way so everyone can share in it instead of only a few select wugs who think they have the only right.

As much as i can agree with you on a whole with poor people getting sarcastic comments and continuously being flamed by the wuggers ( there is a more polite way to do it regardless of how many times the subject is brought up ), I also wouldn't say that the "wuggers" are reluctant to help people for the sake of protecting their "domains". You must actually try understand what wisps are doing to the ISM band. I have had to recently move off the 2.4Ghz spectrum because of the people who want to make a quick buck ( and lets be honest, starting a wisp and selling off you adsl line to other people is a very easy way to make money hence why there is so much interest in starting one ). Im only generalising here so it might not apply to all wisps but alot are guilty of the following:
1. Selling a service without the appropriate licences.
2. Using amps to boosts signals above regulation
3. Using cracked software, instead of being an honest company and paying for it
4. Using antenna's such as omni's along with any other cheap equipment they use therefore creating more noise.

All of these things is what makes us wuggers very angry. These people come along, start their thing and screw the rest of us out of something we are providing the COMMUNITY for FREE.

Plus the market is so flooded with wisps that we actually dont need more, the only competition they going to be providing, is competition of who gets the best signals. Take cpt for example, theres probably more wisps here than fleas on say 10 camels ( metaphor for those trying to argue with it ) yet there are still more people wanting to set up shop here??? Please tell me where the business sense in that is?

Perhaps, but there is the same thing as asking the same question over and over and over and over. And there is such a thing as a "dumb question-asker".

And why should we NOT defend our "domains" against illegal disruptions?
I could wax lyrical about electric fences and immobilisers, but I will rather not muddy the waters with analogies.

Unfortunately for him - WISPs are illegal. There are a number of older WISPs that are running under the smoke screen of the VANS license confusion but that is not going to last. There is currently a licence conversion process that is being finalized and many of the WISPs are going to find themselves without ECNS licenses. Additionally - there is no way to apply for a new VANS license and anyone who has waited until now to start their WISP has missed the window of opportunity.

If you really have such a problem with the attitude of the WUGs then there is actually nothing stopping you starting your own WUG. You of course have to comply with the laws that are soon going to be regulating the WUGS (which you are going to find have a lot in common with the ridiculous rules that JAWUG functions under.)

Of course these questions may seem ignorant to you but they aren't from the perspective of someone who hasn't done this before. In calling someone names like a dumb question asker it is really the person doing the name calling that is a dumbass idiot.

I suppose from the reaction here he should rather have just went ahead and do it without asking, he might actually do that now and if that is the case nobody here has the right to complain. Then people would probably say couldn't he have just asked first. Well, he did and was turned away.

What I am saying is that this defensive attitude from people defending their domains only exasperates the problem and many people who read this will now be discouraged from asking questions. Of course this is not everyone but get rid of the bad apples or set them straight like someone here did and don't make excuses for them in any way, or else you give the impression that it is everyone. I also have to wonder how many wuggers use legal software. I understand the frustration you and others are having but this is no excuse for the way he was treated.

It may seem like an overcrowded market to you but it's not when you are sitting in an area without it. It's more like the fleas of 10 camels on 1 and 9 camels without fleas. This is a problem of markets in general. Cape Town has the luxury of having endless options and so endless wisps with people using those options. Come to Gauteng and you will get a very different picture.

Thats correct, if you buy it it comes standard wit a level 4 license. If its a cpe its a level 3 license.

As in on a piece of paper? cos if so i certainly didnt get any such thing when mine came, but then again it was pre-assembled at scoop so maybe they forgot to pack it back in.

You can verify ur license on mirotik site if you are in doubt. And no you dont get a piece of paper with your rb.

I have been involved with wireless communications in one form or another for close on 25 years and own businesses both in the communications arena and in commercial services. Let me point out one or two things, firstly just because you are able to think of searching the forums for previous comments doesnt mean that somebody else (AKA the originator of this thread) would necessarily think in the same way (he may be a first time user).
Secondly, the comments from, mainly the UG's, gives me the impression that they are a bunch of spoiled kids who dont want to share their sweets.
We are well aware that illegal equipment, coupled with ignorance is the bane of everybody who tries to stick within the "acceptable" parameters of wireless communications, however, If the person exploring the possibility of setting up a wisp recieves the snide comments and c^rappy attitude that ive seen on this thread, how could you blame them if they went and set up a base station and used one of your grids as a mounting platform for their gazillion watt amplifier.
The watchwords here boys are "PATIENCE" and "EDUCATION". You must remember, you were once where they are now.
