Windows 10 slow after clean install

Today is the day for the big patch on WIN 10. some of us should get the notification for the update later this afternoon or in early hours of tomorrow morning.

I'll wait a week to update just if any bugs show up in the patch.

If bugs show up in the patch, they would in any case only be attended to later. The update took place last night. It was pretty slow business as it came with numerous other updates. So far nothing untoward has been noticed.

Drat, I had updates turned off, but it seems like it installed the update anyway

I had to trigger it! Looks like it was available for download some time after 19:45 last night. The download took a very long time. the install time was not so bad but as I was expecting it I triggered the download and then did something else. A restart was required.

And there's another 1.0gb update that was released on the 20th of March :/

I have seen another thread mention a tool called O&O ShutUp10

I have not used it yet, but it seems like a tool of choice for controlling updates and privacy.

So you could consider doing a clean install, then use this tool to take charge of what gets downloaded.

Yes it works, BUT with WIN 10 Pro at the moment, I get all the control I want. I prefer not to use 3rd party "stuff" if there is a way to handle updates better normally. The latest, this week replaces one released last week as there were issues with last weeks version. A restart is required after it is installed.

Microsoft Windows 10 is the Best Operating System EVER :D

1. When you install Windows 10, choose CUSTOMIZE at first startup and disable ALL privacy options

2. Start up in Safe Mode (via MSConfig), regedit, HKLM - SYSTEM - CurrentControlSet - Services & set STARTUP value to 4 for WINDEFEND, WSCSVC & WUAUSERV

3. Install your devices using your preferred drivers

4. Make sure you install a decent AV & Antimalware (realtime) solution.

Wait for Windows 15

I've found that an incompatible gave me a totally unstable machine. Installing a recommended drive gave a totally stable machine. This was in case of an HP laptop.

The other 'trick' I use for major vendor machines is to rclick on the drivers and do an update. One can always roll back for each driver if necessary. This will often replace generic MS drivers with that installed from the vendor.

Does anyone here know how to limit the speed of my Wi-Fi adapter?
