Windows 7 As Primary OS?

Yea, what programs do you use because you need to see if they work but majority will.

Just install and give it a shot man, reloading programs and that takes maybe 3-4 hours is that so bad? You sit on myadsl for 2-3 hours a day so a once off 4 hour install should not be such a problem :p

i store nothing on my c:\ so when i reload it is not a mission. Just keep your OS and install files on your windows drive and store your shyte on another drive because then reinstalling is fast.

If you started with 32-bit OS on C: can you now install 64 bit on C: and continue to used D: without change?

No windows 7 is the best OS microsoft has released to date.

It is complete and bar a few bugs it is ready for the masses :). Xp was not all that great in all honesty, major bugs which took 3 service packs to fix and it is still full of annoying bugs, windows 7 will start off as a solid OS because of vista's failures. Xp people forget it was a dog in the beginning and even now i hate the sight of xp and hate using it but for gaming it is still the best, coming from windows 7 and having to boot into winxp is really hard as windows xp sucks something bad and seems so goddamn slow. People never remember the first 2 years of windows xp and put vista down but xp was not all that great in the beginning.

Not to mention programs shut down for no flippin reason on xp and you have to put up with dr watson the whole time. XP is finished and man am i glad windows 7 is coming so microsoft can get the perfect system and stop supporting xp because even having to fix computers running it makes me want to run away.

windows 7 blows xp away in terms of raw speed as well.

Sure, W7 is now better than XP, but Vista sure wasn't. It had extra stuff, but that's not used in benchmarks or comparisons.

I do hate W7's networking though. I ended up copying stuff over between a Vista and a W7 machine via an external...

the only thing vista really has against it when compared to xp is how if you didn't have a fairly recent computer, it was going to be dog slow on your computer.

Milo the only thing that stopped vista being better was older machines struggled as you said, if you ran vista with a good pc it rocks the socks off xp, windows 7 is very well tweaked vista which smashes xp in a big way.

I dunno froot my networking is 100% hey, maybe your using a dodgy version :p, what build?

I had 7000 running. Got many issues trying to see it from both Linux and Vista. I have certifications in networking but even this proved futile....

Going to give Windows 7 a try once it's been released, don't really have time to play around with the beta builds :o

Jy mis nogals uit... W7 beta werk actually. Vista beta het gecrash as jy die calculator oopmaak :D

OMW fruit your making me laugh, it was released for testing :)

Try later versions.

I think one of the reasons for MS not allowing the public to download Windows 7 any more is because it is already so stable the it can be used a "main" OS.

BTW, where can I get it now?

I also want to try it now.

Anyone.... ?

I really didn't enjoy XP I actually prefer Vista as XP went bottoms up after a few months.

Maintenance man, its called maintenance :D

U know, the usual spyware sweep, registry clean up, defrag, not installing any start up or disabling startup files...

Most XP systems gets screwed over by spywares and dodge windows updates~

Had my XP system running for 2 solid years now and still feels new...

Yea but you have actually make sure windows xp is running well, windows 7 and vista just runs well, no need for all that kuk.

True, but XP is 8 years old...and it was released pre-maturely.

MS is doing a great job with 7 now, just hope malwares dont mess it up in future...since thats the only thing out of MS's control

Yea but people claiming vista is not better than xp is not the truth, vista just cannot handle slower pc's, does not mean it is not a better OS but my point is that windows 7 runs hardware faster than xp and that is the reason windows 7 will become popular, windows 7 is so similar to vista in everything bar a couple really cool changes and the speed :). Otherwise guys who have used vista will move over without problems, guys from xp - windows 7 are in for a shock :). I cannot wait to able to use windows 7 as my only OS, microsoft i hope release it august i hope :).

Yes, Windows 7 is much faster than Vista and as you say, runs hardware faster than XP does. Many people said "downgrade to Vista" but now we're saying "upgrade to 7" which is going to bring M$ back up again and maybe change some Linux users to 7... Okay maybe not. All I know is that Windows 7 runs faster on my old P4 than any other operating system ever has.

With Microsoft's history in releasing operating systems, I think hoping for it to be released in August is a very distant dream. I just hope I can download the rlease candidate that should be coming out soon.

All the vista haters are going by its first impressions that were published. You all forgot what a b!^ch it was to go from ME or 98 or 95 to XP. Vista drivers were the only big issue, there just werent any when it was released. My Vista install was done in its first few days of being released, its still running flawlessly! I can run Crysis with everything bumped to max at 1920X1080, no hiccups what so ever! So don't try the bull sh!$ excuse about performance problems. I have never had to reset my system, hardboot or anything. I have had two BSOD's from stuffing around with OC only!

So Vista was/is a good system. Win 7 will just be the cherry on top! And yes I have tested it. And there will always be some issues with drivers or incompatibilities, but they wont last long. Give any New OS 6 months on the market & 99% of all problems (which are nearly always driver related) will be sorted.

100% Vista fanboi! Probably be 110% Win7 fanboi in the future....

Do not forget that the Win7 is in BETA.

This means that the the released builds are incomplete and are made available for testing purposes. BETA should be installed in a test environment only.

BETA releases often do not include full install code, often this is the last bit to have full functionality added.

All of this needs to be borne in mind when jumping to conclusions about the product.

I have recently installed Win7 on my PC, and it is by FAR better than XP. Have you guys ever thought of when WinXP came out for the first time... Everybody also said, "No, XP is not better than Win98". Then XP became the most popular OS ever. Then again with Vista (as Vista is personally a "testing OS" for Win7). XP took 3 SPs (like mentioned in another thread) before it actually became somethine. Remember all the compatibility issues in the beginning of XP...? No its mostly sorted. So, I think Win7 will be a blast...! Just to explain one of the reasons I like it, is that I purchased a new printer not too long ago (HP All-in-one photo printer) and it installed all the drivers for the scanning and printing without me having to install it from the CD...! That was a major +1 for Win7 from my side...!
