Windows 7 called slower than Vista

The test was stupid. They do not say how they tested it, how they measured it, or even what was tested. Its just a stupid article....

Ok, I'll leave OSX out of it. My Win XP boots up in 60 sec on a >1 year old laptop. You twins. :)

This is relevant because if Win 7 really slows down by 330% over 2 years, it makes no sense for me to upgrade.

That's time to usability not time to wallpaper, and as said that's with a 99% full drive. I should delete and defrag but that's O/T. Let's not derail the thread please anymore.

Just typical you to believe anything you read negative about win7. You obviously have not taken note of how XP slows down over time. :p

Well it has. It used to boot in 30 sec when I first started to use this laptop. However, if I defrag, delete some files and get rid of some start up processes (I don't need), it may go back to 30-40s, or I'll just ghost to an SSD.

But Penguin-kiddo, I do want to believe in Win7. I really do.

Shame i cannot believe how long your pc takes to boot, laptops boot fast man.

You should reload or put a bloody ssd in the thing. Stop buying them p3's peter.

Of course 5400 RPM laptop drives boot faster than desktop 32MB cache 7200RPMs and ULV processors boot faster than full power draw C2Ds with >2GHz clocks. :)

So how fast does your desktop boot up in?
Do you own a laptop too and how fast does that boot?

My win 7 (release version) boots much faster then my old XP. There are a lot of things I don't like about it and quite a few that I do like but I don't have a choice, I need win 64 support so it's either this or Vista (which is worse). On the whole it performs about the same (if not faster) then my old XP so I am content.

How can anyone make that prediction? I have no place for MS in my heart but that is just FUD.

Is that time to desktop or time to usability?
Do you have the same amount of stuff loaded on both or are you comparing an old install of XP to a relatively fresh install of 7.

This article suggests that Win 7 slows down with time as much as XP. Not that it's slow to start off with. They ran simulations, whatever that means.

It's like those Verbatim of Kodak DVD-Rs which have a 100 year life span, they run simulated aging tests on them. Here maybe they install and uninstall stuff - who knows.

Thanks for your input. :) It's great to hear a mature response for a change in helping me decide to quit XP or go Win 7.

I can cut the time by defragging, freeing space and uninstalling some stuff. No biggie. Reloading is a lame way of doing things.
