I am trying to install my HP M1522 MF Printer Series on my PC, running Windows 7 Professional. Whilst I am aware of the fact that I will need to download updated drivers (when SEACOM can get their freakin ship out of the harbour and find the fault), windows 7 says that I need to change my user account to administrator to allow the installation to continue?

WTF???

I am the only user registered with the PC and have administrator rights.

Am I mssing something?

On the installation file, right click and run as admin

Exactly the way to do it. Even though you may be the only person on the pc, Windows 7 has seriously neutered the Admin group powers for safety. In reality, all that it means is that you may have a UAC prompt when running the file this way.

Pardon the ignorance - installation file is not the autorun function? If so, I tried running it as admin to no avail. I get the same message. Since when has Microsoft become a "father-knows-best " company? Surely if I want to install a programme, I can do so without Microsoft looking out for me?????

You have to circumvent that autorin.ini, open it in notepad and check what program it points to, that's the one you want to run with admin rights.

Microsoft did this on purpose because they were under fire for their bad security in XP and older.
They've always had that father-knows-best attitude, nothing new there.

I have no idea what to be looking at in notepad.

It can't be this hard to install a printer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not to worry. Seem to have solved the problem by going thru the USB device and looking for printers and getting the drivers straight from the disc.

Actually, I think I stumbled upon the solution by accident.

Hmmmm
