System builder,OV or "get genuine" is what you need for a clean install as recommended by my local MS account manager.
Also note that Windows 8 activating does not mean the install is legal.

Running 8.1 since the weekend. Before that I gave Windows 8 a go when it came out, did not last a week as my older games (Homeworld 2 and other) refused to work. Glad to report this no longer is an issue.
Only qualm I have is that it takes me 2 clicks to get to "All programs" lists, if only there was a way to get there bypassing metro. ie: I would prefer to see this, instead of this when I press the Meta key.
Oh and the fact that I still have to figure out how the grouping works in "All Programs"
For example in "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs" all my GOG game exe's are in a single folder Named GOG, yet the system insist on placing Syndicate wars under a games section instead of GOG.

I'd appreciate if Skype could stop crashing whenever I try to make or accept a voice call, otherwise I'm perfectly content with 8.1.

Its there, just right click on Taskbar & go to Properties - > Navigation tab -> select "Show the Apps view automatically when I go to Start"
The Apps layout will follow on from the shortcut directory structure (like Win7's Start). Right click on any program in Apps and go to "Open file Location", navigate up to see the Start shortcut directory structure.

Is that the Win8 Modern version? I have no issues with the standard desktop version of Skype (don't use Modern apps).

Nee ***, that abomination will never set its grimy feet on my laptop's hard drive again. I suspect it's rather audio driver related than to Skype itself, otherwise there'd be much wider reporting on the issue.

Just install the game, copy German no-cd crack (Game is still in English so no problem), and edit PLAYERCFG.LUA with my screen size. Now works 100% at 1920x1080.
Works with Windows 7 as well, but for some reason just refused to start on Windows 8

When I do that, it opens the Windows Games section, this looks different to the start menu as per Program Data see:
None of them reflect the actual All programs listing:

Probably picking it up from somewhere else, like in Win7 you have the All Users and [your user] Program directory structures (you see them blended together).
Just search for Programs on your C: drive, besides the common;
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
you should also find;
C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
Its possibly in there.

Tried that, and its not in my user's roaming profiles. Like I said noooooo idea why 8 does this, in fact I have given up, might even be a bug seeing that this is still preview and not even RC or Final.

They must come from somewhere? What are the full paths to the two directories in the screenshots above i.e. ...\GOG.com and ...\Games ?

1st one = "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\GOG.com"
2nd one just opens a "Games" folder with no navigation options, thing is the "Games" one picks up only some games but do not list all of them in the "All Programs". Its really a puzzle as to what and where they actually getting it.
For now, its a waste to problem solve, I will just ignore it, besides my doctor said I need some chaos in my life to battle a bit of OCD I have
Lets just hope this only happens to games, cause if other apps does this 2 I will have an issue...

I have been using Windows 8.1 Pro Preview for a while now. Initially I got a start button and menu (StartWin8). I removed the application, I feel a lot better without the program for some odd reason, I just discovered you press Start Button + S to open the search side bar (whatever its called), and you just type what you looking for and press enter to open it up. I like this method more than the start button and menu for some reason.
My games have been running well on 8.1, with no issues. Just antivirus (I use Avast! Free Antivirus) doesn't work on 8.1 - Avast said they working on it.
When I install software or Windows 8 Apps, the tiles don't automatically add on the Start Menu (this would normally happen with Windows 8). I don't think its a bad thing, at least my start menu wont be flooded easily with tiles...
Overall I like it, probably going to upgrade to 8.1 when it releases.
