Windows 8 may make Microsoft cool again

LOL. Haters love to hate. I must say that the marketing spin is making me curious, but curious enough to install along side Linux? To be honest, I can't resist giving it a go, just won't be a proper geek if I didn't.

See the video at : http://www.buildwindows.com/
It is brilliant. Keep in mind that the Metro UI is optional to the "traditional Win7 icon" GUI - depending if you work from touch or with mouse + keyboard. A new term that will become a standard in future : MetroApp - which can be anything, from browser HTML5, Java, XAML or Silverlight or traditional WinForms app. And it can all run on ARM processors as well !

You have to watch this video before commenting here, else you just a Win basher and a troll.

Took a minute or two to load up then silverlight crashed so I won't be bothering lol. MS and their flavour of the internet leaves a bad taste in my mouth more often than not. I certainly aint going to reload in IE. I avoid IE like the plague. You can't call me a basher and a troll cos I'm not commenting on the video that I wasn't able to see :D

I shudder to think that they're trying to play cloud-cloud, I can't wait for the day that they realise they lost the internet dominance war long ago. If only they paid Adobe some sort of license fee to use their tech for their web UIs and created their own cloud apps based on something that adheres to standards, even flex.

If the shoe fits....

Strange, page loads perfectly fine for me in Chrome, FF and IE...

Ever think that it's something you are running/installed that isn't working other than blaming M$ immediately?

Since i've switched from xp to Windows 7 it has just been sunshine all the way. I am still very happy with Windows 7 and cannot wait for Windows 8 :D

I will hold my judgement till its installed(Tomorrow) and I have been running for at least a month or 2

Windows 7 was a lot better than Vista, but a few things I have seen on the net makes me wonder about 8's direction as I am not a big fan of the whole Metro/square dance UI* with ribbons all over the place.

And I know you can swap from the Metro start screen to the Windows 7 look, but from what I have seen the theme goes deep and is even found in the start menus.

The question is just how deep and how well does it fit.

Win XP still working just fine for us at the office, and probably will for some time to come yet. ;)
I am certainly not exited about spending more money on making a computer come to life, which is already alive and able to perform its function.

No, Silverlight works most of the time, it just crashed today and I'm not going to try fix it. I just don't have time. How come I never have issues with flash in FF but the first Sliverlight app I try in a while (hardly anyone's using it), it crashes? Don't worry, I'm not trying to pull you down with me, I'm just stating what happened. Promise, it really happened ;)

Now here's my next point.... it's a VIDEO not an OPERATING SYSTEM. I'll hang around until it's released to comment proper. Whether it'll turn out to be ME II or Vista II or perhaps it'll be more XP II / 7 II (better). No point in commenting on a vid of an OS. I want to FEEL IT WORK (or fail).

Hopefully they have shred the code and the minimum hardware requirements are lower than Windows 7 requirements.... that way I get a proper upgrade when I buy new hardware - not just a 'playing catch up' upgrade.

LOL at the fail at 1:31-1:32 HA HA HA. Gotta love demo-ing betas. At least it didn't BSOD on them heh. You could cut the tension in that minute with a knife lol.

They have done exactly that.

Goodbye Android, Goodbye iOS.
I'm so glad I haven't spent any money on those yet.

"The developer tools for creating Metro apps are the same powerful tools Microsoft has for writing standard Windows programs and Windows Phone apps, but with templates for the Metro layouts. These include full screen, snap view and full view in landscape and portrait at different screen resolutions."...

^^ You can make all the comparisons to other tablet OS's you want, but at the end of the day this is what's going to make this thing my platform of choice.

I fully support MS on this endeavour and I'll be logging as many issues and complaints as I can while we're running preview versions. Welcome to the future of computing. Been waiting for something like this for years.

Pissssss cool.

With reference to your comment : "LOL at the fail at 1:31-1:32", if you could not run Silverlight how did you then view the video ?
