Windows user to Mac - Tips, Suggestions & Apps

I think in the old days prior to USB-C that was the case and people just still perpetuate the concept.

I think it needs some time to settle into a pattern.

But also remember Apple being both the hardware and software manufacturer knows exactly what’s going on inside there and can work accordingly. Any third party tool sitting on top is either guessing or just using a static pattern which also isn’t necessarily good.
Well I'll be damned. Look what I noticed just now:

This is very worrying - Battery capacity degradation

Here's mine not even a month old already showing wear
I think batteries show a lot of wear for the first ten percent, then level off. It's hard to say whether it is a problem or whether it's perhaps just reporting the info wrong. Either way, if you feel it's an issue, maybe use that warranty and have it replaced if it bugs you. When last have you calibrated the battery?

FWIW, this is what mine is showing:

I do believe Apple warranty covers you for 80% at 1000 cycles.

So you'd pretty much need to hit 80% before 1000 cycles come up to be able to claim against it.

But as you say it's not unusual for it it to have an initial drop off and then stabilise.

*****

Also, once again you don't need third party tools for this stuff.

It's all in System Information.

You’ll make me laugh, to normal people who want to see ‘100%’ it makes a lot more sense to artificially drop full capacity as part of battery management.
Hence don’t use 3rd party tools.

And that doesn't bother you?

Less than a month and you've already lost 0.2%
Are you being serious? I'll be extremely happy if my battery only loses 2.4% capacity per year. And I'm not even planning on keeping this thing more than a few months anyway.

lol i'm quite obsessive, don't mind me

I even keep my laptop bag on the floor of the backseat instead of the boot as i'm scared of it moving around and getting dented in there

What are you upgrading to?

Seems a bad place nonetheless. If you have to run in a hurry, your laptop is getting left behind. I keep my laptop bag next to me if at all possible.

What are you upgrading to?
The refreshed 16" MacBook Pro.

Na, I'd never forget my bag. My wallet etc is all in the bag.
it's just there for the journey to work and back

Are you expecting a M2 or M1x for the 16"

M2 seems more likely, but the name is fairly irrelevant. Something better is certainly coming. The only real reason for upgrading is the display size though. 13" is too small for me.

Off Topic

Thought I'd give it a try once, tried to create a VM, couldn't get past the first screen because of a button I needed to press that my keyboard did not have.

Should probably give it another go and try properly, just for interest sake.

WWDC is Monday, so we'll know about the M1's evolution by eight.
