Sorry maybe I should clarify. Washing hands with soap and using alcohol based sanitiser are two different things in my world. You are right, both are types of sanitisation. I only sanitised my hands with soap and water prior to COVID. Post COVID I sanitise my hands both with soap and water and alcohol based sanitiser products.
Yes. I'm not as dum as I come across.

Why is still my question.

My odds of dying if I get Covid are very small, even being 41 and a bit overweight. However masks are most effective for preventing spread, not infection.
No, not really. It's too contageous for that, and it's been too long, and in this country there is no adherence in too many sectors. It's a lie on these fronts.

The reason I wear a mask is for the small risk reduction it gives me, but more so for the massive risk reduction it gives the 70 year old man with diabetes I walked past in the shop the other day. For him if I am infectious and don't know it it would very well could save his life.
Well meant, sure. I'm in my 59th year, not interested in protecting myself from common viruses with low mortality.

If all the low chance of dying people act like you guys and say screw it let it spread and stop all preventative measures millions more will die who never had to die. Like I said earlier, you be sociopaths. FACT.
Nope, and don't be nasty now. We accept death as part of the life cycle. Even galaxies and mosquitos all die. The risk here is very over-exaggerated, no thanks.

Is it that hard to be a little considerate.
I know I am. Why I do wear the mask at all, to spare the feelings of Karens.

EDIT to correct typo only.

Yep, but the same still applies - it gets through the gaps.

These considerations have been discussed to death in the main covid threads. Plenty of science says it's mostly ineffective.

And plenty says quite the opposite. It's a case, it seems, of people wanting to believe one way or the other, the main difference in my mind though (outside of whatever the objective truth is), is that taking a precaution that can save the lives of the people around you VS a belligerent anti-mask stance (usually by people who also definitively claim lockdowns are dangerous and serve no purpose [cake, eat it, etc]) is an absolute no-brainer to me.

However, there is a value judgement attached to wearing a mask. There is no medical reason to wear it outdoors, yet you are forced to do so in many instances. (there is possibly also no medical reason to wear one in many other instances in which one is forced into doing so, but that's another debate). Buckling to the draconian and unjust laws of a country says something about the person who would do so rather than stand up for their rights.

The fact that the law as it now stands says I can be arrested for standing outside my house on the pavement, all alone, not wearing a mask is insanity. There is no reason behind that and I will never give in to a government that abuses your and my rights like that.
Lol. This picture disagrees with you:

There is no legal requirement for you to wear a mask in your private vehicle.
Yep, I'm aware. I meant neither the traffic officer or police officer during these two stops told me to put on a mask during the stop. Checked license disk and drivers and let me drive on. Both were wearing masks though. below their noses of course.

Reminds me of the Shakespeare play - "Out damn spot" ;- )
(MacBeth?)

Just seems odd to those who think it nuts, but understand why you think it helps.

Bottom line - can we trust authority these days. IMO, not at all.........
Yeah I agree, I also understand why people don't want to wear masks. They are a pain. Difficult to talk through, hot, uncomfortable when worn for long periods (like I have to at work).

Also agree that you should never trust governments, always scrutinise for yourself and make your own decisions. I am not saying I agree with making mask wearing law either.

Just been discussed.
In brief - too mild re mortality to qualify this "extreme emergency" reaction, it's the way of Karens.

I thought I answered the question.

I understood that you asked why I consider washing hands with soap and water and using hand sanitiser as two different things.

You changed my mind. I agree that they are not two different things but rather two different methods of the same thing, sanitisation.

Is my understanding of your question correct?

I fail to see the medical science behind that. But ok.

Sorry for your loss?
I expected you to not understand it. Don't worry, those it is meant for hopefully will. I am no longer posting to help you, but those on the fence who may think you are worth listening to.

Is it that hard to be a little considerate.
is it that hard to give people freedom to live their lives, how they see fit?
is it that hard to let natural selection go its way.

if your 70 and at high risk, why be out and about, when you KNOW you can die from a flu?
If you can die from Covid and are at high risk, get the jab, and move on.

It's always 'just been discussed' or 'the latest science says', or 'check the threads, this is totally clear'. Trust me - I've also been paying attention for the course of this pandemic, and just happen to have come to a different conclusion, and even if I am wrong about my understanding of the evidence, it's honestly no imposition to me, and rather safe than sorry for something that really doesn't affect me all that much.

Cute. Cause you can see some condensation rising from their mouths, that's spreading corona. Regardless of the actual fact based science that talks about the effects of wind and sun on the virus itself, let alone the spread thereof.

Remember all the massive spikes in infections after outdoor protest the world over (for various reasons) last year? No? Oh, because they didn't happen?

No problem with that. My beef is with the authorities who abuse everything.

No.

I'm asking why the addition of sanitiser. Why do you think regular hand washing with soap and water, and not licking unwashed hands etc is no longer sufficient?
