The only thing that may make me consider using them in crowded places. But hard to see masks positively after all the political abuse.

I do think when kids or colleagues are sick at work, they should be forced to wear a mask, not to infect others.
Ie with flu season, etc.
I have to admit, since I stopped taking public transport, I hardly get sick

Which I totally understand as well. That being said, there are certainly cases where there is a clash between authorities trying to do the correct thing (insofar as the evidence points to at the time), with belligerent minges ****ing it up by being unreasonable about relatively reasonable restrictions, and then being even more unreasonable when these actions lead to a bigger problem with actually problematic restrictions.
The bottom line is that there is often no definitive answer (or at least, hasn't been for the majority of the time, as the situation evolved) for how to deal with different aspects of this whole thing. There are lots of discussions to be had, and I am sympathetic to various positions on the matter, but I draw the line at people who are willing to potentially endanger others due to what really boils down to a mild inconvenience to themselves.

This a thousand times over. Gathering some interesting stats soonish that I will try to share. I am on the SGB of a local primary school. We have fairly accurate historical numbers for sick teachers. Teachers tend to get sick a lot being exposed to so many sick kids and we have records of sick days. We are just about back to full attendance (last few grades start when we get the rest of the single desks in a few weeks). Mask wearing will continue for some time and has already happened with a lot of full classes so I want to see how the sick days compare for our teachers for the rest of this year compared to the same winter season in 2019 and 2018. If masks make no difference it should be obvious to see at that point.
I am currently in the longest period of my life that I have not had flu. Struggling a bit with seasonal allergies currently but have not been sick in over a year.

same here, one good side effect from all this covid stuff.
although like somebody said here, Human beings have survived for centuries without dumb masks,
and we had much worse pandemics than this one, and we survived perfectly well,
agree on if you have a flu or weak immune system, maybe it isnt such a good idea to be out and about.
but give people the choice of what they want to do.
I mean nanny laws on people only goes so far.
like I said before, within reason people should do what they like,
as for Masks, people will wear them however they like, pointless trying to be a policeman,
if you feel confident enough, dont wear a mask,
Just one further point - we do need natural immunity, so must get sick sometimes.

Yep. I did have that thought. Its like the Russian orthodox Christian family that fled the early 20th centuary persecution and lived up in the Russian Taiga with no contact with other humans for a few decades. A Geological team found them and within a year they all died from whatever they caught from the outsiders (their health was not good to start with though).
It is nice to have a break though, you gotta admit!

I keep a pack of ten disposable masks in the car. The kids are constantly forgetting theirs.

There's a super absorbent surface-wipe cloth with a blue and white zigzag pattern that's in common use, make a mask of that and you'll breathe better. It's got bigger holes, but they're still really small enough for the need so no potential added harm.
It gets many ladies' attention though as they recognise it, we solved that by dying them black and it helps its looks as well.

Changed mine from Yes to Other, as long as socially distanced and in open air, I don't feel the need for it.
As long as I am in close contact with people (friends and family) who could die from Covid, I'm happy to wear a mask. If people are socially distanced it doesn't bother me if they are maskless, but the problem is that people without masks can quickly enter your social space without realising it, or just because they don't care. Take the gf's dog for walks and the majority are masked up at the trails and hikes but it seems that the maskless ones are always the one that want to have a fat chat.
I didn't realise confidence was what kept covid away! I'll get a life coach to give me a boost and protect me from the damn disease
Political abuse by who? It's generally the denialists (virtually all right-wingers) who have abused the "it's only a bad flu" excuse to push anti-mask mandates and the "it's an offense to freedom of choice" argument. Even when you show them mountains of research that shows the positive effects of mask wearing from scientists (not other politicians), they still use baseless claims to push their agenda.
I can totally imagine you giving a eulogy to a friend/loved one who died from Covid/Covid related complications.
