These issues were covered, read the thread. Actually, there's lots of covid threads....

On short haul flights when I hear somebody coughing and sneezing, maybe

Where do you go hiking? The valley of the retards?

The valley of the law-abiding people who give a **** about others and know that even if all this mask stuff was nonsense, at least they took action to protect others, unlike some of the more selfish people that seem to exist here.

Edit. This is what I don't understand. If at the end of the day, mask use has 0 effect on covid spread, then I, as an individual have lost nothing, except wearing a piece of cloth on my face when in public spaces. If however, it turns out that actually, mask wearing can slow the spread and save a life and I didn't do it, then not only am I an ahole, I might be responsible for people dying.

The question specifically asks if you would wear a mask if it was no longer a legal requirement to do so.

So yeah, I won't wear a mask if it's not mandated.

I'm sure most of us here, and businesses alike, only wear masks in public because we're afraid of being made an example of, of what happens when you don't.

MSM keeps a sustained feed of videos and articles of where people are publically reprimanded, and embarrassed, when they're not obedient. Worse, if they're augmentative over the subject.

Ignore "MSM" for a moment and go look at the studies coming out of universities and medical labs showing that mask wearing reduces the spread of Covid. Here's one example of various studies showing that masks have an impact on the spread of Covid-19:

If you have basic Google skills you can find many more studies directly from universities, thereby bypassing any "MSM" influence you believe that may be incurred inbetween.

@zolly , you're getting the wrong end of most of our sticks.
(Erm, sorry if that came out wrong as well :- )

We do care about others, about preserving life as well, but not about overdoing it which world politics have decided to do.

If you don't get that, you need to learn more about it. Like the other side of the science you seem to ignore much.

Not getting into another personal debate though, all the best with it.

Explain Texas to me.

Yes - looks like the only defense against covid for foreseeable future.

I'd say the focus on sanitising your hands before you touch your face had an exponentially more positive contribution against covid, let alone against numerous other bacterial and viral infections which people spear into their facial orifices.

I take you've also looked at studies that support the hand-hygiene issue, @zolly? If yes, how would you say good hand-hygiene practice alone compares to mask-wearing alone?

Explain Texas to me.

I've only spent a few minutes reading, but it seems that Texas may have achieved some degree of herd immunity at this point. Official numbers combined with margin for error estimate that roughly 60% of Texans may have been exposed to the disease at this point.

So yeah, doesn't change the fact that I've got actual medical research to back up my views. I'm still waiting for anti-maskers to show me their science.

Texas... wide open spaces, some sense, so maybe something in that but can't see how.

Safrica... nope, something doesn't add up then at all.

I'm still waiting for anti-maskers to show me their science.
You just need to look beyond MSM. Don't worry, boogieman won't fry your brain.

To your point above.

From what I can tell, there hasn't been any studies splitting the two and comparing them, because govts aren't willing to put people into control groups to see which one dies off the most. And I'm guessing you're trying to bait me into a argument where you can go "oh so maybe it's hand sanisation that's reducing the risk, not mask wearing", or even worse "oh look, they changed their minds on surface risk, how do you know they won't change their views on masks?"

At the end of the day, here's how I see things: I could be 100% wrong on masks. I will still sleep well at night knowing that even though we might find out masks are useless, simply because I still did something to protect the people around me, and others. On the other hand, if I refused to wear a mask and it turned out I was wrong, not only would I look like a jerk, I'd potentially be responsible for making people sick.

You decide if you want to push back against masks and be a jerk and responsible for making people sick, or possibly going "hah, I told you so!" a few years down the line. I'm happy to go "well, even if we find out masks didn't do anything, I'm glad I tried to help people even if I was wrong".

Herd immunity is suddenly a thing

A year ago talk of herd immunity was heresy

A year ago we barely knew what Covid was. There are still people figuring out more about it. And what are you talking about? There's been plenty of discussion on herd immunity.

Even now we still don't know if vaccines will be enough for us to wipe this thing out, or if it'll become seasonal, so not sure what your point is?

Also, my reply was that it MAY indicate a degree of herd immunity. That's what experts are discussing. He asked for an explanation. I gave him one.
