If you are illiterate, well that's something else and maybe someone can make a video or an E-book. If you are simply too lazy to read, well that's your problem and not mine or the WUGs'.

And my actual point is, if you want to make allegations, prove them as well.

Yup,

For all the newbies who want to join. Rather come to IRC and meet the people that make PTAWUG great. Beware though that it is a community project. Expect to meet allot of different people, different ages and different levels of maturity!

PTAWUG is a great example of what can be done when we work together.

There are many many wuggers who have a great attitude and have great pride in the work done thus far!

The WIKI we have is mind blowingly awesome, with heaps and heaps of information. Readers are leaders.

I knew "membership" fees would mess things up. As soon as someone pays he feels he should get something for that money and the s**t starts.:D

Can I just point out that the Jawug Club is charging the membership fees, not PTAWug.
They're not the same.
This thread is directed at PTAWug.
So put your conspiracies away. Thanks.

OK thanks, but that does'nt really answer my question, what are the JHB fees for? Membership? How much is the fee?

Jawug formalised as a Club in order to obtain NPO status.
There was coverage on MyBB about this move.
Basically, as a Legal Entity, we have more flexibility, and the ability to pursue peering agreements with other NPO Networks.
The fee is R30 a month, or R360 for the year. (There was a discounted rate of R300, but that offer expired at the end of October)
Most of this is going towards the costs of setting up the NPO. The rest will be allocated to projects as the members vote on it.

Still no Internet access though ;)

Ja, simple ass. South Africans can never agree with each other, why flame PTAWUG? Seems to me KOOS_wug keeps on going on and on and on and on and on and on and on...... real mature man. On the other hand i agree with abraham, if the shoe fits you'd know what to do. And that door has a spring arm that closes it self.... ;)

One wonders if the intention is to spread a bad message about the network to discourage people from joining. In which case, perhaps the thinking is that his (/her) link will improve. I dunno. Pretty selfish either way. But I think that's all that I will say. I just don't understand the thinking behind such an "informational" post. What is the goal? If to give a "real view" of the WUG - fine. But still, it doesn't make sense to me. It just doesn't.

PTAWUG praises themselves on documenting everything on the WIKI, PTAWUG's motto should be "IF you can't read p!33 off".

AWESOME, i think we will make it that
If you cant take the time to RTFM rather not connect to the wug.

I must say that I gave up on WUG months ago, my equipment is sitting on my roof -DEAD.
Unfortunately I am just in a k@k area but let me tell you, not many people wanted to help and I fully understand that, it is basically IMO left very much up to the individual user to connect and make sure he/she has coverage and to put up the equipment themselves.
A bit of an issue when you are not an expert ;)
It is easy putting it together but quite a mission to get a signal.
Maybe just my area.

As for the coverage thing (KML) it doesnt take into account buildings and trees so that doesnt really help.
I suppose it is because its a free service. ;)

Marine1 I dont know if you actually read the PTAWUG getting started page but we are very clear about the GoogleEarth calculator only being theoretical and that you should get on your roof and have a look first. And if you are unsure after that you can then have a signal test done to remove any doubt.

The KML is only used to supply users with the physical locations of HighSites and to give you a theoretical view of what you can connect to.
