XBMC Tips, Tricks, Troubleshooting

Luckily I dropped Openelec over the weekend again and moved back to Win 7. Too many small issues with Openelec for me.

Thanks for the advice. Will search around the web for a suitable app.

IIRC Windows 7 actually has this function built into it in the sound setting.

EDIT: Just checked, and it's there - right click the volume icon in the system tray, go to playback devices, click on properties>enhancements>tick loudness equalisation and then test it out.

If it's not quite working then there are third party programs that can do this - some actually manipulate the volume control automatically - you can watch it move up and down on its own. Entertainment for 2 minutes or so...:D

Have any of you used the PS3 remote to navigate through XBMC? I want to get an HTPC for my folks but keyboard/mouse option is a no no for them.

Hehe. Thanks.

I was actually just busy reading up about the Win 7 feature.

Will give that a shot tonight. Otherwise it will be an app.

Really enjoying the whole Media Center project and not missing DSTV with all its ads at all.

Just need to play around with the Sport Streaming addons so that I can watch the Boks on Saturday.

Unless you have a paid subscription to an international service, your best bet is SportsDevil. It is hit and miss. Many streams work, many don't. And you need to have a decent internet connection as well. SportsDevil is a bit tricky to navigate, as there will be 20 different streaming options from 20 different services at the same time for the same game, all broadcasting at different qualities. I find that going through the Live Sports providers first is best, then if none of them work or are poor quality, I click on TV, and start clicking through the channels.

How it works is that Live Sports will give you a list of providers where it is broken down into types of sports, both live now, and upcoming. This makes navigating it a little easier. The TV option gives you a list of links to sites that broadcast all of the Sky channels and a few others. So I'd suggest preparing for it an hour in advance so that you can find the right stream at the right quality.

Personally, I've resorted to using DSTv streaming in my browser. I've installed Unified Remote so that I can control the keyboard and mouse from the touch screen of my phone...

Awesome.

I still have my mom's online DSTV credentials. So I might just decide to exit XBMC and stream it via the browser and Supersport site.

4:3 letterbox though and there's nothing that you can do about it. It's better than nothing, and it has become far more stable in the last month or so - a far cry from the constant crap they had with it before then...

Anybody know if there is a way of setting up the audio so that the action scenes are not 5 times louder than the normal parts?

With a baby sleeping in the house it can be problematic when the action starts and it sounds like it is happening inside her room. And setting the volume down so that the action is better, leaves me with the problem that I cannot hear normal conversations very well.

/perhaps I'm deaf :p

Couldn't agree more, eventually we resorted to just keeping the volume low and downloading the subtitles.

While in video playback, press the M button to bring up the OSD menu, select the speaker & adjust the Volume Amplification to suite.

That easy hey?

I assume I will just take the amplification slider down a notch for the desired effect?

Will give that a shot tonight because the Windows function did not help at all.

Remember to "Set as default" so that you don't need to do it all the time.

hi guys , is it possible to get or setup a TV Guide using favorites streams inside of Navi X?

Guys need some help from the xbmc Anime fans please. I have managed to add some of my anime to xbmc using the special play lists etc but I still find some of them won't play. Now I am led to believe that this possibly has to do with 10bit encoding done for some shows. I have tried one or two guides but I still can't play some of the files it seems. Most of these guides are old and I have read thats some of the later builds of xbmc support 10bit playback natively. Is this the case?

Any recommendations on fixing the playback issue....?

Anyone found any decent music streaming addons that work in SA? Songza seems the best option so far...

Anyone interested in trying out an absolutely incredible skin should give Arctic Big a go - http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=132897&page=115

It is beautiful and very functional. I've set mine up to play trailers automatically when pressing info for a movie and it is such a cool little feature. The viewtypes and animations are also buttery smooth and stunning...

What setting are you using? I don't know if I would call it beautiful at all unless you have customised it somehow?

Play with the viewtype settings. There are some really great ones there with smooth animations, as well as great now playing screens...

Mouse still works. For some reason it just says it isn't supported...
