Xbox Series X / S

The 365Gb of space you get with it is the primary reason I upgraded to an X

I was very happy with a S on a 43" 1080p TV but needed more space. Back then paying R5K for 1TB card vs Selling my S and using the R5K to buy an X instead was a no brainer.

If they could just build some kind of automatic streaming system in when an external hard drive is attached it would solve the entire issue.

Moving **** around constantly is very annoying even on the 1TB.

I recently moved to UK, the 2TB is 70 pounds and can probably shop around and get it cheaper.
I picked up a series S for 200 pounds during a black friday special.

We get shafted in SA

Doesn’t really solve the problem of needing to manually move **** around.

I mean they could literally make this like their very own Storage Spaces system.

I would be happy to buy a R900 converter/case if that means I could use a 2TB M.2 going for around R3700 vs the R5000-R6000 that we have to pay for a 1TB Expansion card.

Dont need to move stuff round on my PS5 and that only has a 1TB M.2 in it.

That’s because it has no games.

Anyone here own both the XBX and PS5? Is there any reason to pick up a PS5 at this point?
I think I've got everything covered between the PC, XBX and Switch. Most of the PS exclusives end up on PC anyway.

I've got the PS5, Series X and PC.

PC is mostly for Warzone, titles that aren't on console and sometimes titles that only hit 1080p/60 or 1440p/30 on console.

Series X is great for Gamepass and some sale titles.

My PS5 sees the most usage, it still has a lot of exclusive stuff like Horizon Forbidden West, GOW Ragnarok, Gran Turismo 7, Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart, The Last of Us 2, Ghost of Tsushima as well as the upcoming Horizon FW Burning Shores, Spiderman 2 and FF XVI.
The PS5 is also my main console for 3rd party stuff because of haptics, the games are usually better optimized (which is crazy, since the Series X has more power on paper) and also because I got an extra 1Tb NVME for only R2800 versus the crazy Series expansion card prices.

Where are the games better optimized for the PS5?

Where are the games better optimized for the PS5?

Elden Ring - PS5 runs better. (Digital Foundry)
Saints Row 1440p high quality mode - PS5 has a 3 to 6 FPS advantage (Digital Foundry).
The Callisto Protocol - FPS drops in high quality mode (Digital Foundry).
MW2 - No screen tearing in certain intense firefights (Digital Foundry).
Witcher 3 Next Gen Performance Mode - PS5 has higher FPS in cities and no screen tearing (Digital Foundry).
Grid Legends - higher resolution in intensive scenes (Digital Foundry).
Also 3 seconds faster loading in most stuff.

There are cases where the Series X is better too. Dying Light 2, F1 2022, The Quarry, etc. But sometimes when there is a resolution advantage there are more frametime spikes in gameplay versus the more conservative PS5 approach.

So not all 3rd party but some? The way you said it all 3rd parties. So the developer might be better at one console then another.

Didn't say all the time, just that "the games are usually better optimized".

Not surprising though.
Every single developer I’ve spoken to developing for PlayStation 5 has been evangelizing how easy it is to work for. It’s essentially the same development environment as PlayStation 4 and you scale up from there for the new power, the features and what not. I can’t stress enough how happy developers seem to be with this situation.

Same for me. My Series X won't be used for anything beyond Game Pass titles.

I have found the PS5 to be a lot better. Load times are amazing, graphics aren't any worse from what I can tell, controller haptics makes a big difference, the buttons aren't so loud and clicky, I have way more friends on the platform and download speeds are excellent.

I do wish Sony put more effort into the Pulse 3D headset though. It's garbage compared to the official wireless Xbox one, at the same price. Will have to buy a 3rd party headset soon as I don't think I can persist with this awful thing.

This is where my new'ness to gaming comes in
I thought you meant the seagate external drive thing

Yes that is the external storage for current gen games than I was referring to.

If you thinking about USB storage, Xbox and PS5 for that matter can take any drive and play last gen games from them. In both cases I have a 4TB Western Digital on each and works great for older games.

I think the best option would be to go with a PS5 controller + steam link on the TV. But it looks like Samsung isn't keeping the app up to date.

Ah i got them confused. I have normal drives plugged into my xbox, but now it takes about as long to move between them as it does to download.

I was thinking about the expansion, but looking at the seagate drive and wondering why it was so damn cheap.

I realised how great Quick Resume is when I played Tiny Tina's Wonderland, it is kak to load a game from scratch every time you want to play.

With QR I jumped between a few games in a session.

It's honestly much quicker for me to delete a game and redownload it than to move it between drives. 50 GB done in 15 minutes, enough time to go make a coffee or get a snack.

If it's something you do frequently then it may be worthwhile upgrading your line speed. The price difference between 100 Mbps and 500 Mbps is not that big (at least on Vuma), but difference in experience is huge...

Same. That’s why I don’t get the space debate even on the Series S.

Cheaper to just get faster internet lol
