Xbox died when they announced Xbox One. From that legendary epic fail, it was all downhill from there.
Sony called it on Game pass. Die hard Xbox gamers thought game pass would kill Sony, it did not.

But then again, Sony also making f@uk ups, so we actually need another 3-game company.
Maybe Sega will make a comeback....

Game Pass has been going since 2017.

Game Pass subscriptions make $1 billion in revenue per quarter. We don't know about profit yet. Currently I'd say none due to the amount that MS is paying to buy all the companies.

Game Pass has around 25 million subscribers.

And we didn't have to buy Hifi Rush because it was on Game Pass. That's how it works. NONE of us paid for it. Of course not. It's a subscription service. You pay for the subscription and then play the games on the subscription.
1 Billion is equal to only 5 AAA games cost to a company.
So basically, game pass was a vey bad idea.

If you thinking Sony and such, yes GamePass is a very bad idea.
If you thinking Netflix its the best idea since sliced bread.

Sure right now it costing them big time, but they playing the long game. The real question is if they will stay on track or budge and listen to the "now".

My question is where the current "Xbox" is on that plan, or is it dead already, and we just seeing the birth of Microsoft Gaming 365.

Game Pass is not a practical solution, as no one has enough time to play all the "free" games included. It was a flawed concept from the beginning and is already showing signs of failure, evident from the lack of growth. For Microsoft Gaming 365 to succeed, their studios need to start developing games that people genuinely want to play. Great exclusive games are what drive platform sales. However, since 2014, Microsoft has failed to produce any original, groundbreaking games that could become their next big franchise like Gears, Forza, Fable, or Halo. Even those established series are now past their prime.

Do you watch all the shows on Netflix? Your argument is flawed.

However the groundbreaking games part I completely agree with. I don't know how they can't create proper games. They need to give people a reason to subscribe to Game Pass.

Actually I see that the 25 million subscribers I mentioned was from an old source. It has since grown to 34 million subscribers.

Microsoft has a single goal, selling recurring services to customers, like below:

* Office 365 is a service for business and personal users.

* Dynamics 365 is for business intelligence.

* Azure is a cloud computing service

* Game Pass is a service for gamers.

More subscribers, means more expected cashflow, which increases the value of the company, which makes the shareholders rich. Selling once off hardware or software is a doomed business going forwards. This is why MS is back on top, they realise recurring services is the way forwardsl.

I don't understand why they just don't allow it with a warning that running Series X|S games of an external hdd will increase load times and it's recommended to move the files to the internal.

I guess they won't be able to milk the thousands of rands out of gamers for their over priced expansion cards. This whole expansion card thing was a money grab on launch and still is today.

The new games are built with those high speed load times as a basic assumption - I suspect that hdd load times would make the game unplayable.
