Xbox360 prices to skyrocket

Yeah, well.

PC gaming is even cheaper now comparatively speaking.

Flipsakes!

xbox pro going for R3800?!?

I bought mine last month @ IC on a sale for R1999 - Now the games are in the R1k range? No thanks.

Guess it's time to upgrade the pc once again.

And the other consoles?

There are no price changes scheduled for the Wii or PS3.

Microsoft has been undercharging for the Xbox360 locally, so this was only a matter of time.

for the price they charge for games, the console should be free.

I don't have a console... luckily. I *almost* bought a x360 for christmas...

R1k per game .. that is insane.

Edit: To think .. 4 games and you just bought yourself a new GPU for your pc (not even selling your old one).

All I can say is GameXChange guys :)

I don't buy a single brand new game for my XBox360. All are pre-owned. Either from GameXChange or BidOrBuy. Don't buy new. It's madness.

You mean two games right?

Hmmm. Three pc games or one console game?

BWAHAHAHA!

R1000 per game! Good fking luck!

See piracy double in the next year.

My last post referring to the previous article reminds the same. The last article was a stupid article to write as there is always a pricing delay when it comes to straight R/$ exchange rates.
Our market is simply too small to be a major player when it comes to gaming and software etc, we will continue to have to spend ridiculous amounts of money to stay updated.
Get more people connected and then maybe volumes would justify price decreasing. XBox overseas is huge on internet/online gaming.
But getting rid of our monopolists is like trying to get rid of Bob M of Zim!!!...doesn't look like it will happen. I'll stick to PC games thanks

He he I was aiming for middle-top range.. but yea.. you can get good cards for R2k. :D

I don't support piracy.. but with R1k per game, good luck to keep customers buying games.

@Mike Smit .. you are correct in swapping.. but who will still pay R1k per game? There is going to be lots of people not buying games IMHO. So 2nd hand market might not have that many titles.. (and with world economy going down...)

What does that meen???.... Don't count your chickens before?????.... they hatch...lol

@Elfpierre

So you don't think the fact that people can buy an Xbox360 for less here than in the USA is relevant to consumers?

Or the fact that this will not be the case for very long?

I for one think its great information for anyone who is in the market for an Xbox360.

And there is not "always a delay when it comes to straight R/$ exchange rates. Look at the PS3 and Wii which were both affected by the currency devaluation almost immediately. These companies usually see these things coming and select the forward currency rate accordingly.

The Xbox360 had a buffer of a few months, which means that for a time it was a very sweet deal relative to the local console landscape. How is this is a stupid article?

Why I think it is a stupid article? Unless one pegs the currency (for a period of time) and hopes that it goes the right way (in your favour), writing an article that boasts 13% less is worthless. My point last time was that we South Africans are continually told that the prices we pay for games or anything electronic is justified based on a straight currency conversion. We are being conditioned into thinking that it is alright to pay (now) R 1000 for a game.....I would have thought the article to be intelligent had the writer used standard of living when making a comparison. For example XBox games in the US costs between $ 30 - $ 60 depending on release, and this excludes rebates which one can get at most stores, yes it doesn't include tax but this is normally negated by the rebates. Now $ 30 - $ 60 is very affordable to the average man in the street in the US but R 1000 is not here in SA. So that is why I think the article is stupid, we are simply not comparing apples with apples.....That was really my point. Cheers

Ok fair point

But we also need to take manufacturing costs into account. And these companies are not intended to be charity groups, they operate for profit.

So to expect any of them to make consoles and games available at affordable prices to the average person in the streets of SA is kinda ridiculous.

I agree that console games are horrendously overpriced. But, you cant expect them to make a loss here just because we are a third world country.

Lastly, I still feel that people should know that the Xbox 360 is cheaper here than in the USA, because we are used to paying more for imports.

+1 it is that old "what is the price of a McDonalds BigMac burger" idea. The relative prices of a McDonalds BigMac in different countries is more representative of what you can buy with the currency than the official exchange rate is.

Some companies seem to get their prices muddled, like with that new Bravia TV, you could buy a decent used car for the price they're asking for that TV. Surely there are very few people that are prepared to spend R1000 on a game. I wouldn't even be prepared to pay the R699 that these new PS3 games go for, let alone R1000.
