Xbox360 prices to skyrocket

Heres a business idea, buy a few and then wait for the price hike and sell them. I hope some enterprising retailers do that now, imagine Incredible Connection go and buy an 360Arcade from Game and then sell it at R2300. Would that cause nonsense with the market. I'm sure some computer shops will do this.
 
When are these price hikes expected to happen?? Before or After Christmas??
 
This was to be expected. Those who buy now will get a good deal and when the price of the games goes up it simply means that you either buy with a friend and split the cost or wait for the price to drop and play it when it gets a bit older.

Not ideal but its the way it has to go...
 
Well if They do this the XBOX 360 will lose me as a user. I will do one of 2 things.. chip the thing or sell it and get a Wii.

R5000 for the Elite is just way to much... When you can get a 160gb PS3 for R4999 at Musica
 
Microsoft has confirmed that the price increase will take affect as of January.

They also said that the price will come down if the currency corrects itself.

Unfortunately this will just result in more piracy. I don't even bother trying to buy an Xbox not that I can afford to even pay one off. I feel sorry for those who did and now can't afford the games.

But we also need to take manufacturing costs into account. And these companies are not intended to be charity groups, they operate for profit.

So to expect any of them to make consoles and games available at affordable prices to the average person in the streets of SA is kinda ridiculous.

I agree that console games are horrendously overpriced. But, you cant expect them to make a loss here just because we are a third world country.

Lastly, I still feel that people should know that the Xbox 360 is cheaper here than in the USA, because we are used to paying more for imports.

What are the manufacturing costs for each copy of a game that they would be making a loss selling at the current prices?

What will be telling is whether the console and games go up by a similar amount in the UK. They should if the Dollar is a factor.

did microsoft announce these price increases, or MI Digital (the distributor)?

SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT 1k per game? I guess I'll be playing pre-played/2nd hand games even if its months after initial release. This is definitely a dissappointment. Come on MS? :mad:

MI originally announced the news, but our contact was at Microsoft who explained that the price increase is entirely linked to the currency devaluation and that if it bounces back they will bring prices back down.
 
R1k a game is nuts! No wonder piracy is so ranpant!

You can get it chipped (cough....so I've heard) for a few hundred bucks.

Expect blank DVD sales to rocket this XMas!

Amazing how when prices do up its all due to the currency. When have prices ever come down due to currency!

WTH! I mean next water and electricity will be going up again due to the weaker rand! Why is my salary linked to the weak rand!
 
Well we're at what.. R10 to the dollar now.... and a new game in the US is about 60$ isn't it?... So how do they justify R1k per game... thats +- an extra 40$ in their pockets....
something is screwy....
 
Haha, it;s a shame that some people have to buy games for R1000, me on the other hard have a BenQ drive, need I say anything more :)

I agree, plus that is retail price, so they are probably getting it slightly cheaper as well...The only thing I can think of is that due to the devaluation of the rand the shipping costs have increased, but interestingly enough we don't get our consoles/games from the states, we get them from Europe. In UK you can get a game for 40 pounds. That is about R600. Also doesn't justify R1000; except for overpriced retail games...

check out this site if you want to order from overseas, http://www.dvdcrave.com, they have pretty good pricing and shipping costs.
