Xiaomi Redmi Note 4/4X

Hi, if it was an system app, go to settings, system app updater and at the bottom there is the history of updated apps. I'm running the Global Beta MIUI 9 rom v 8.5.3, the apps that updated yesterday was the Download and Chinese app store (Apps).

I bought this (3gb/32gb version) about 2 weeks ago from Mobile In Africa for R2700.

Upgrading from a (sadly stolen) Redmi 2 Pro that was also bought from Mobile In Africa on launch.

Just updated note 4x

Is the Redmi Note 4 still worth getting?

It depends what you're looking for. If you're on a tight budget, it's probably one of the better best bang for buck phones. The only disappointment is the camera really, but I had low expectations because it's not exactly a high end phone.

Screen, response, battery, space, it's all great. MIUI is a matter of opinion, if you don't fancy it, Lineage OS is awesome.

I'm still very happy with mine, it has an few problems, like scroll screen shot freaking out, but it's screen recorder is awesome. Then on Telkom Mobile, don't know if it is my sim card, but the one in my second sim slot reboot the phone if roaming on MTN network with mobile data connected from that sim. I recently ported my CellC sim to Telkom Mobile, useing it as my sim 1 and no problems using it on MTN network with data on. Workaround to use data on sim 2, force network type to 3g only. GPS freaks out, when not on 4g or WiFi, workaround in weak 4g areas, download area for use as a offline map or get offline map app and disable mobile data when navigating, this happens on my dads Redmi 4A too on MIUI 9. Love the Battery life, it just last and last. I use open camera app, give you better control over the camera and allows you to capture 4k videos. I also use the ir blaster alot, it makes an better remote for some of my devices and is handy when in a place and the Aircon is set to cold or to hot or the TV in the bar is on the wrong Ch. Hahaha. Would say it's still best phone in its price range.

At R2699 currently from official store it still is great value for money. Still very happy with mine. The only thing that bugs me a little is the camera quality as mentioned before. The camera is the only reason I am considering taking a new device on my telkom freeme sim that has expired.

Ya I also saw the deal and wondered if I should get it as a backup phone.

do you mean the app or the image quality? I'm pretty happy with the image quality
The image quality. It's not horrible, but not on par with high end phones. Especially in low light. My pictures doesn't look that great next to my friends' with their iPhone 7s and S8s. But with the price difference you probably shouldn't compare with those.

The battery still blows my mind. Used my phone a lot today and still only on 50%. Much better than some high end phones of the same age.

They use a crappy sensor unfortunately, it's why i opted for a meizu m6 note instead as it has a decent sony sensor. The two new recently released xiaomis actually have pretty decent cameras.

I bought myself the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus Global Version 4G Phablet - off Gearbest, first one got lost/stolen en route and the second arrived safely. I have moved from Iphone 6s and could not be happier.

In fact bought another two of the same phones to sell to mates. If anyone is interested - I am selling 1 of them BNIB R3k thats a bargain for a great phone. Pickup in Bryanston or Sadnton only

My phone has started randomly rebooting frequently.

Tried formatting, reinstalling rom, installing different rom. Same thing. Think it's related to the storage, as soon as restores get to a certain point it bombs out.

Read a few times of this happening. So probably won't buy another one if they're not made to last.

Switch off LTE :( That is what's worked for me.

Standard or custom rom?

Mine also does this, but only on Telkom Mobile when data roaming on MTN. But also only with sim in sim slot 2 set as data sim, the new Telkom Mobile sim in slot 1 works on LTE on Telkom network and roaming on H+ on MTN.

Interesting. I'm on a custom ROM... Second one.

But also have a Telkom SIM in slot two for data. Will try swap them around. Been like this for a year now though.
