Xperia X10 - SE

Vodacom SP just gave me : "Only next month".

If anyone hears anything about whether we will be getting a choice of colours - please let the rest of us know......

R8k seems kind of pricey if you compare it to some other options coming out soon, eg HTC Desire. It's practically the same price as a top of the line iPhone...

still think desire is a better phone than this.... desire will be much cheaper too

SE at Vodaworld just said that they are still waiting for theirs, but they think they are only getting the black ones due to the networks only ordering the black ones!!!!!
OMFG what is it with our $#@%$#%$ operators that they think we don't want a choice....!!!!!

I am a die-hard SE/X10 fan, but boy are the networks and SE pushing me to switch to HTC! Keep trying guys, keep trying......

Quick summary to update this thread:

Vodacom: Email enquiry 1, as posted above said the phone is being tested. Email enquiry 2, their response was giving me a list of all the vodashops in the known world and instructs me to ask them.

I made a couple calls (6 vodashops to be exact).

3 said that they don’t know.

1 replied that it might be on there new monthly brochure which comes out 7th of May. When I asked when they know what is on there monthly brochure their reply was 7th of May.

1 Shop said May and the last 1 replied June.

Spotting the trend I gave up on that route.

Soooo…MTN has the phone on their website and there brochure with price and contract details. I phoned a MTN Shop. They don’t have stock. In fact they’ve never had any stock and of coarse the icing on the cake, they don’t know when they will have any stock. (In their defence they did ask to take my number and would call me if they ever got the phone.)

So to the question: “When will anybody have this phone available?” the answer is simple – Only Bert Nordberg knows and his not taking calls.

Noone at the shops ever knows anything, I've given up trying to ask them. So far the most honest answer I've gotten is 'we get told when we're going to get a phone about 5 minutes after it arrives', lol.

I think someone said that the X10 and Desire both have 'coming soon' written really small somewhere, I haven't actually looked closely.

I would much rather get a Desire. Pricing is very similar, still Android, capacitive screen, multi-touch... Just seems a much better buy

Comparing to the Iphone what is the UI like, as smooth as the Iphone?

its smooth until you play with media related stuff like pics and video. then was a bit laggy

also remember its only running android 1.6 whereas desire is 2.1

to me the only thing better is the cam size.... but seriously is 5meg on the desire not decent enough for a phone ;)

The X10 also has almost double the internal storage, but app2sd should help sort that out.

Surely the will release the 2.1 upgrade for the X10, maybe that is the reason why we still waiting for the phone from VC.

SE's current stance on an upgrade to 2.1 is 'sometime before 2011'. They've promised it will happen, but there's no definite timeframe, so that's not the cause of the delay.

I've seen September mentioned, as well as multitouch to come with 2.1 ...... even though there has been major speculation about the ability to add this.

I think if SE themselves made a statement that they couldn't do it then they can't. I would never buy a device from SE expecting them to solve anything in firmware upgrades because their history indicates that they very rarely do, going all the way back to the P990. If it isn't perfect at launch it never will be. The flagship argument really won't fly here because this always happens with SE flagship phones and they only fix about 50% of the problems. My advice is if you aren't going to be happy with the device as is then don't buy it until they officially launch the upgrade.
