y does anyone remain with iBurst

dorris, best you get wbs or a reseller to come out and do some tests and maybe try to keep it for a week to make sure you do not end up like some of the unlucky people.

If it works fine then keep it otherwise you will have to take the step backwards and go adsl.

I dont even know why is this discussion going on....IF anyone is unhappy with Iburst than go to ADSL...if anyone is happy with Iburst stay with iburst...if anyone is happy with ADSL than just keep ur ADSL and dont change it to anything else...

For some people Iburst works good...yeah but only for "some people"!...thats like 5% Iburst users are happy with the service but 95% unhappy....

I think that everyone will consider getting Iburst because its a faster service offered in South Africa...i can say fastest for a good money....but WBS should consider sutisfying like 95% of the people to be happy but maybe 5% not happy with the service...and they must just turn off all this crappy protocol shaping stuff...than i think WBS Iburst will be a greatest service for that amount of money....and i can admit that it would be the best internet provider in SA....

The other thing which i cannot understand is why this internet connections are so big problem in South Africa...why cannot be as everywhere in the world?even the poorest countryes in the world have better internet service and cheaper than south africa...
thats just a thing which bother me very much...anything else is good in this South Africa but telecomunication SUCK BIG TIME!!!!

Thats all folks...

how can you say that though, even if there are 100 users commenting on the service on this forum, which there arent, that makes up 1% of the total user-base. Add with that the fact that this whole forum was created to attract people who are unhappy with services there is no way you can substantiate your comment by saying this forum is representitive of the overall user-base.

Lets look at the evidence shall we, we have maybe 20 - 25 users here that say they are unhappy with the iBurst service and 10 that say they are happy, everyone else who comments on the service are mainly users burned from Sentech who don't have the service or over protective ADSL users who don't have the service either.

Take TheRoDent for example, he said I was lying when I said I even had speeds ever over 100KB/s, now we all know thats false but that blatant lying for whatever reason leads other people to say "well OK if he says it I guess it must be true", the overall weight of his posts is anti-iburst with a "get ADSL" tone, now he's allowed an opinion but its not based on anything other than reading some unhappy users posts and assuming we are all liek that, well that added with the fact that he seems to have soemthing against iBurst.

Now I just used him as an example, I could have used lots of people, but I'd say aside from the helpfull/informative threads/post about iBurst from iBurst users this forum is really about ADSL, ADSL is king and everything else must be worse. People get very defensive about it too.

The facts are nobody here knows whether the majority are happy or unhappy, that WBS has about 10 000 users whom are not tied to WBS (even if you signed the 24 month contract you can still cancel), so are you telling me 10 000 paying month after month are unhappy?? If you were unhappy you could easily choose other options so it wouldn't make sense that WBS's yearly projections were filled in 2 months.

Look choose ADSL if its best for you, nobody cares but in this country something like iBurst will beat the pants off ADSL because:

1. it's faster, even if my iBurst is having bad problems its faster than adsl 512, the ones with the bad problems are still faster than adsl 384.
2. it's instant, you get it when you want it just like you would if you lived in a normal country
3. its cheap, if my iBurst was so bad it was as SLOW as myadsl 384 or even worse 192 it would still be cheaper than the ADSL alternatives
4. it can be everywhere, its easier and faster to stick up a tower than to get exchanges digitised
5. ITS NOT TELKOM, I find it fairly amusing that the main 'activists' are ploughing money into Telkom's monopoly knowingly. Fact is telkom might get a cut of the money i pay to WBS, but not as much as they would if i went with them directly and I like that.
6. It is the ONLY broadband comparable with countries we like to compare ourselves to, like australia, in aus you get cable with a limit every month, 10GB on average, you pay about the same price as you do for iBurst 9GB with an extra GB.

And you know what people can come to myadsl and diss or praise the service all they want, but its not going to stop loads of people signing up to WBS for one/all or more than the reasons above, so the pecimists are just fighting a losing battle. More users signed to iBurst since the launch (april of this year) than ADSL got in a whole year and a half after its launch, my friends in daveton aren't going to get ADSL anytime soon because so few exchanges support it and it costs a wad for anything remotley comparable to overseas speed and bandwith, but iBurst makes broadband accesable to everyone. ADSL is for elitist geeks slash IT gurus in this country and iBurst is for the entire spectrum. We are mainly geeks here, but the profit isn't with geeks its with bringing broadband to joe average who wants to shop online, download a film or two (legally of course) and check email, people who don't even know what shaping means and don't care to learn, and thats why WBS is smart.

I think they should change the name of this section of the forum to "MORE ADSL!! (and sometimes iBurst)"

Well....I have to say I'm happy with my iBurst. I know there are some problems like a useless helpdesk and a small hickup here and there but over all not bad. I can stay connected for days, and my pings are good so I can play wow when ever I feel like it. :D and 1mbps is way faster than 192kbps or 384kbps which would fall in the same price range. Then again I would go with ADSL if I had many problems like some ppl on the forum.

Why does every one think what they have is the best for every one else?

People's needs are different.

Constant service level from adsl? You are delusional.
iBurst (WBS) has peering with UUNET (largest IP carrier globally) and IS. I've been using iBurst in CT, JHB and PTA and the slowest international download speeds I've experienced were around 20Kb/s. I consistently download at around 100Kb/s.
Once one's cap is reached, you are throttled to 64Kbit/s whereas DSL becomes useless.

More bs. Telkom DSL is shaped fullstop.
I have never had to call iBurst tech support. OK, so the initial cost is high, but that's possibly because there's one single hardware manufacturer. The cost is however comparable to iBurst internationally.
Please use single punctuation, there's no need for multiple marks (???).

You must enjoy waiting for months for your DSL service to be activated. I didn't and will never again.

The only people who believe that WBS is peering with IS is you and slimothy.

I'm sorry, I smell a rat. Either you MrH and slimothy are alter ego's of whoever pulls strings at WBS, or ... well... the line "there's a party in my pants and you're invited" line actually works...

I'd love to hear a comment from Kei about this, but I beg to differ.

As for the majority of your post. Sure, if WBS wishes to pawn it's service off as "not being Telkom" and get users that way. Go for it by all means. Kei sure loves the fact for not being with Telkom in any shape or form (which is his right)

I have several friends who is with iburst (most of which I told not to get it and one being a RESELLER of iburst) and all of them are UNHAPPY with the service.

This forum is by all means no indication of how many users are happy OR unhappy with the service, but from what I hear from my buddy who's a reseller, most are unhappy with the service.

Why don't they just leave the service and get something else? BECAUSE THEY ARE BUSY. Who the hell here has time to fiddle and play around working on "workarounds" to things that should be available and WORKING from the get go?

Screw how it's "easy to get and works almost anywhere and it's faster than ADSL"

IMO, its LESS reliable with speeds varying wildly. And I'm in a PRIME spot for this and tested this on several towers over JHB. Although WBS's coverage is WAY better than Sentech's, it is still not what I'm looking for in a reliable fast TRUE BROADBAND service.

For 9 gig you pay almost R1400 (not sure about the pricing, so **** you if you try and argue my point on this)

For 10 gig I pay R379. True, my "line rental" isn't factored into the price, but WBS doesn't have a "line rental" at all. So how do they justify asking you more than 3 times the price for bandwidth? What? the 1mbps speed you'll never get unless you suck slimothy's c0ck?

Ya... right...

Where? I havent seen a post to date with that in. More like "hey buddy, how YOU doing" posts than anything else

on the phone, he called me up we spoke about some stuff and that was one of the things, why dont you ask him yourself, this was way back a week before the cache proxy in April

noone, I can understand that you are upset as iburst did not work well for you, and now that you have adsl you seem to have dropped to about 1/5 of the speed that I get most the time.
That must really churn you up, but why try take it out on us as it's hardly our fault that alot of us have a full 1mbps before cap.

iBurst works for me so why should I say it does not.

yeah slimothy, but I did not want to rub it in to hard

bad enough that he thinks we all work for wbs as it is

To get back on topic....

I am currently with iBurst because:

1) Sentech burnt me BAD (and *** signal in my area)
2) ADSL is not available (yet)
3) I enjoy the mobility and use it all over jhb

Don't get me wrong, I am one of the many users that are NOT happy with their service... It's simple, I don't have much of a choice.

With ADSL becomming available in my area within a month, I may consider getting rid of my utd and reducing my utc's account to 1gb and use adsl 192 with axxess (their service has been damn nice, when I've used it).

Hope this gives you some of the info you needed

The fact is that not all people are getting Slimesters' and MrsH's speeds. People in Randburg, Northcliff, Emmarentia, Sunninghill, and the Parks are getting poor performance from iBurst.

There's no reason to stay with something that just frustrates you. As to why people still GET it, well, it is an option for connectivity, and for some people it suits the bill.

What I'd really like to see is for MrH, and Slim to become part of the next MyADSL speed surveys, before the next broadband report is released. What I'd also like to see is wider userbase testing along most of the major iBurst areas, for a period of two weeks, taking into account the geography and towers. I will be chatting to rpm about this.

I'm glad iBurst works for you. In most cases, ADSL 192k is faster than my iBurst. I can MSN/Mirc and VPN without any type of slow down or frequent disconnections. I can P2P at my full speed and can download SINGLE THREADED international AND local at my full speed (well, 90% of full speed) without fear of it spiking or anything.

I ran iBurst and ADSL parallel for about 2 weeks before dropping iBurst entirely, and I'm sure I made the right choice. As for my speed, I can always upgrade my line. And when 1mbps ADSL becomes available, I'll be laughing at all you guys still thinking iBurst are g0ds.

not to mention my sub 30ms ping i get playing unreal tournament, or sub 500ms ping I get playing WoW... and before you go "but I get those pings too" do 30 pings at least and see if it's constant.

I think my pings differ by 1 to 2ms wheras iburst can wildly go from 60ms to 3000ms and back

I'm done here with this bashing iburst BS. It is pretty obvious to me that Myadsl put up this "iburst flame pit" section in order to try to put people off iburst.
As far as I'm concerned iburst works for me, and if posible new ibursters want to listen to this bashing BS then so be it as they will be the losers.

noone you say you will be laughing at us, well I did not think this forum was supposed to be a competition between the two services.

Be my guest and put off as many users as posible since I could care less if the user base stays small.
